Title: "Atheist" DVD player? Post by: AoTFan on September 12, 2016, 04:48:24 PM Or maybe it's agnostic, I dunno... Post by: Olivia Bauer on December 23, 2016, 04:55:44 AM I'm guessing it's supposed to say "Region Free".
I didn't even know DVD players had region locking. Title: Re: "Atheist" DVD player? Post by: Alex on December 23, 2016, 06:48:52 PM DVD's do, but Blu Ray doesn't. North America is region 1, Europe is region 2 and so on. Makes it a pain in the bum for me and Kristi trying to remember which DVD's can be played where as we only have one region free player in the house.

Title: Re: "Atheist" DVD player? Post by: Alex on December 24, 2016, 12:58:44 AM All the Blu Rays we have play fine on our normal players with no region issues, whereas the regular DVD's cause problems. Currently I am watching my European Blu Ray of The Last Star fighter on a normal US Blu Ray player.

Title: Re: "Atheist" DVD player? Post by: Rev. Powell on December 24, 2016, 03:52:07 PM Why the Hell does region locking exist? It's a relic of the old distribution system. The creators license different distributors the exclusive right to release movies in specific territories. This was necessary and made a lot more sense when you were dealing solely with physical copies of films, but now it's just a leftover. Title: Re: "Atheist" DVD player? Post by: Rev. Currently I am watching my European Blu Ray of The Last Star fighter on a normal US Blu Ray player. It's probably a Region 0 (all-region) Blu-ray. You can have all region DVDs too. My special edition Blu-ray of THE REFLECTING SKIN won't play on my Blu-ray machine unless I return it to factory settings and then choose a new Blu-ray region. Title: Re: "Atheist" DVD player? Post by: kakihara on December 25, 2016, 06:19:08 AM yep, region locking sucks! I was just reminded of this recently when I finally bought a blu ray of THE CAR. I wasnt paying attention when I bought it on ebay for $5. I was excited because I had been looking for a reasonably priced version for a few years, finally found one too cheap to pass up. "why isnt anybody else bidding on this movie?", I wondered. When the movie arrived, it was in a strange transparent-white case. "hmmm, I thought. Ive never seen a blu ray case like this before". There was a very nice booklet included with lots of history on the developement, production and history of the movie. "hmm, must be a special edition version of the film". Collectors know that feeling when you find something thats been on your list, and you find it at low price. Well, a short time later, as I preparing to enjoy some B-movie goodness, my blu ray player politely told me that my movie was region B and that I would not be watching this movie any time soon. Denied.............
Title: Re: "Atheist" DVD player? Post by: Pacman000 on January 14, 2017, 03:12:26 PM One could argue that atheism and agnosticism are religions. Depends on how one defines religion. I've seen it defined as both belief in the supernatural and as a viewpoint which effects the way one responds to the world. (Of course one can believe in the supernatural w/o believing in a god/gods, and I'm sure there are more alternate definitions which could complicate this further.)
Still a funny picture. Will my copy of Ben-Hur work on that player? Yes, Ben-Hur is in bold. 'Cause the title is so BIG it demands bold typefaces. |
