Lucifer has finally been renewed for Season 5, Netflix has announced. The TV comedy will end ‘in the way it should’ producers said, following seriously high demand for a final season by fans. A year after it was cancelled by Fox, Lucifer became Netflix’s most-binged show for a whole month, beating Game of Thrones and evergreen sitcom, Friends. Executive producers Joe Henderson and Ildy Modrovich said in a joint statement: ‘We are so incredibly thankful to Netflix for resurrecting our show last season, and now letting us finish the story of Lucifer on our terms.

‘Most importantly, we want to thank the fans for their incredible passion and support. The best is yet to come!’ On Instagram, Netflix bosses wrote: ‘Thanks to the Lucifans, #lucifer’s story will come to an end the way it should: the fifth and final season is coming to @netflix.’ Lucifer lead Tom Ellis, who got married this week to screenwriter girlfriend Meaghan Oppenheimer, said on Twitter: ‘Well look what happened… ‘Thank you to all you loyal #lucifans for watching…now let’s end this thing properly.’

More than 300,000 fans campaign to get the supernatural drama a fourth season when it was cancelled by Fox in May 2018, and the show finally arrived on Netflix for a 10-episode run last month. Now it seems the ‘Lucifans’ have had their way again, but suspense has been building for a conclusion that will tie up all the loose ends. The show itself is based on a DC Comics title and sees the devil abandon hell in favour of Los Angeles.

Fans already have some pretty major questions about Season 5 (featuring spoilers for Season 4). Like, what will befall Lucifer and Detective Chloe Decker (Lauren German) and will Detective Dan and Ella work out who Lucifer really is? Well, we already have a couple of hints about Season 5, including the teaser that Lucifer will run into a ‘familiar face’ in Hell during the next season. And, with the new poster’s tagline ‘See you in hell,’ we’ll take the hint that it’ll be a pretty major plotline.
