Just saw this in CNN. They usually don't  run fake death notices.

It's confirmed. This is so sad. Rest in peace, Mr Hauer. The irony of his 'tears in the rain' speech is that while he talks about lives vanishing, his will live forever.  :bluesad:

Just heard about this.  Very sad.  I really liked a lot of his movies.

R.I.P.  Rutger Hauer

RIP

can't say I know too many of his films, and I also can't say I'm a huge BLADERUNNER fan either, but he was definitely a distinctive actor with a unique presence. WEDLOCK of all films is the one I associate with him most

He was a remarkably talented actor; LADYHAWKE is one of my favorite films of his.  That and HOBO WITH A SHOTGUN.

He even made "split second" bearable.

Say what?

This article which is fairly good says hauer was in the genre star wars?

Blade runner wasn't the same genre as star wars, blade runner was SF/cyberpunk, dystopian future whereas star wars was space opera thru and thru.

I have no doubt hauer would have made an excellent character in a star wars movie as either a jedi or sith, but sadly it was not so.

I'd expect to find them both in the Sci-Fi section at my local betamax store.

Goodnight RUTGER.  We loved you.

It is possible to correct the misspelling of RUTGER.    You can edit your post.  It's not Rutget.  :bluesad:

You are an ass.  If you made any real effort at this forum you would figure out a simple task like correcting the typing of the name of the person you are "memorializing".

I am not particularly interested in you WAYNE but let's be clear, there was no "shade" thrown at you.  If you were really a member of this forum, you would be used to me pointing things out to everyone.  It's not just you, though you are particularly hateful... and sad.  Stupid troll.

bit sad that this is happening in an RIP thread.

kind of like the internet equivalent of arguing at a funeral...not a great look tbh

has anyone seen BLAST ?  one of his more recent films. mostly set in a swimming pool! it's a proper bad movie - bad as in slightly enjoyable bad (I thought so anyway). worth a look...

Agreed, but it doesn't matter:
A. Dopey started the thread.
B. Dopey EDITED the title of this thread to correct the spelling as suggested by me (thereby defeating any notion of inability or purpose).

Wayne, has it not occurred to you how pointless and damaging your arguing is?

Yeah.  He asked you to fix a typo.

Then you threw a hissy fit.

Just like your doing now.

Just like you always do whenever anybody says anything to you.

Grow up, Sven.

Sorry; I thought your name was Wayne, 'cause ER used it.  I am always interested in any member's name, even yours.  If "Wayne" is some kind of insult to you, I am unaware of it.

no problem... just trying to shift focus away from all the negativity and b***hing, and back to the joyful topic of Rutger Hauer's death.

Not super familiar with Rutger Hauer. I've tried watching Blade Runner twice now and couldn't get into it. However there are many different cuts of the film so maybe I just saw bad one.
I started watching the Blade Runner Final Cut which is supposedly the best one. Sadly my ADHD struck and I wasn't able to pay attention and had to shut if off (I also didn't have my Ritalin at the time).

Although he's also the second famous celebrity whose best known for sci-fi to voice the character "Master Xehanort" from the Kingdom Hearts franchise, then die shortly afterwards, the first being Leonard Nimoy. Dorky tangent, I know.

Either way, his performance in Blade Runner from what I remember was very good even if I couldn't really get into it for whatever reason.
He was a talented actor, and I have to commend someone who cemented themselves so heavily in the sci-fi hall of fame.

I went through his film list on the IMDB: I forgot that he was in the anti-SA film The Wilby Conspiracy but I forgive him for that mis-step.
