News reports said that Bryant died (https://myfox8.com/2020/01/26/kobe-bryant-dies-in-helicopter-crash-tmz-reports/) when his helicopter crashed

Bryant was reportedly in his private helicopter with three other people when it crashed.

Yeah, that one is a real shocker.  His daughter was on the chopper with him, too.  Poor kid!

I still can't get my mind around it, and I may never be able to get my mind around it, as I expect those larger than life characters to be immortal, which, of course, is not true, but, let us also remember the others who also died in the accident.

John Altobelli, his wife Kari, and their teenage daughter Alyssa.

Christina Mauser

Sarah Chester and her teenage daughter Payton

and the pilot Ara Zobayan.

They will all be missed by someone who loved them. R.I.P. to all.

The ex-helicopter guys I work with were talking about this yesterday and were horrified that the pilot was flying in those conditions and using relying on visuals rather than flying by instruments. If they are right about what they think caused it, it sadly sounds like a completely avoidable tragedy.
