Huh?
Died in childbirth? How can you be evil if you died in childbirth?

Henry VIII third wife Jayne Seymour died in childbirth...
He divorced his first & fourth wives (considered evil for it's day) & executed his second & fifth wives...

It was the two executions that pretty much established his reputation.

Ghengis Khan - According to THE GREAT BIG BOOK OF HORRIBLE THINGS, he is tied with Chairman Mao as history's greatest butcher, being directly responsible for the deaths of some forty million human beings.  Men, women, and children - the Mongols did not conquer, they simply exterminated under his command, leaving mounds of skulls where severed cities once stood.  He was also a serial rapist, copulating with so many helpless women that he has sixteen million descendants living today.  The terrifying thing about that statistic is that, despite having sixteen million living descendants, he hasn't even replaced HALF the people he killed.  And yet he is a national hero to the people of Mongolia, and as they are so often prone to do, modern academics bend over backwards to forgive his atrocities and make him out to be some sort of great leader.

I mean Jane Toppan!
Or "Jolly Jane", her serial killer moniker.

(https://i.imgur.com/4Lypqyf.gif) (https://lunapic.com)

"Toppan was a nurse who killed dozens of patients. She was nicknamed “Jolly Jane.” She confessed to 31 murders after her arrest in 1901. She would kill the victims with different combinations of medicine and chemicals and even climb into bed with them after administering the dose. She was found not guilty by reason of insanity and committed to the Taunton Insane Hospital for life."

Founded the militant terrorist group al-Qaeda.  His role in bombing US embassies and masterminding the 9/11 attacks led the US to declare the "War On Terror".  A 10-year manhunt for him ended with his death by US Navy SEAL gunfire in a Pakistan compound.  He once said "that since the United States is a democracy, all citizens bear responsibility for its government's actions, and civilians are therefore fair targets."  Good riddance, scumbag.

In a weird way, that's how I always felt about Osama Bin Laden...
The US made this guy during the Russian invasion of Afghanistan, Then he got his feelings hurt when he wasn't called on to liberate Kuwait from Iraq, Then the Clintons spent eight years p**sing this guy off...
Don't get me wrong, he always had it coming after his first attack on the US, but it was always a myth that he & Saddam Hussein were buddies, and the first few attempts to get this guy were international embarrassments.

^ Yeh. I think George Bush was president when 9-11 happened.
Bin Laden became the leader of al Queda when Ronald Reagan was president in 1988.
And there was George Bush Sr, then Clinton, then Obama- who killed him.
Not personally, of course.
Oh-PS-
He's not from Afghanistan. He's a Saudi.

A major component of bin Laden's ideology was the concept that civilians from enemy countries, including women and children, were legitimate targets for jihadists to kill. Yeah.
Aileen killed 7 men. Bin Laden killed- gee- I have no clue. I know the Twin Towers and the attacks in Pennsylvania and the Pentagon killed lots of people too. That takes calculated planning. I don't thin Aileen planned anything in her life one second to the next.

65. Saddam Hussein
One of the scum I was first thinking of when I saw this thread.  5th president of Iraq and revolutionary leader.  Ran an oppressive dictatorship during his time in office.  Iraqi deaths during his regime were estimated to be at least 250,000.  His invasion of Iran and Kuwait caused many more.  Openly defiant towards the UN for their stance on nuclear weapons and was captured in 2003 by American forces.  Executed by hanging at the end of 2006.

I DID mention that the US made this guy during Russian invasion of Afghanistan...  I don't know if Reagan himself chose this guy, but it would have been with a lot of help from the American CIA, but even more so, from the American press...

What turned him against the United States, was when Bush Sr liberated Kuwait from Saddam Hussein...  Bin Laden thought that should've been his duty, & was some sort of sacrilege to let the US do it.....  He later got kick outa Saudi Arabia because he wouldn't let it go....

And he didn't start attacking the United States until the Clintons were in office.

^ so your saying he is in his rights to take out the Twin Towers?
And it's Bill Clinton's fault that Bin Laden was a maniac?
Neville Chamberlin- the Prime Minister of England declared " Peace in our time" after meeting Hitler just before Germany blitzed Poland. Neville didn't create Hitler.
Clinton did't create Osama.
I don't really think whoever was president would have mattered. He was a scumbag.

He was a scumbag from day one.

No, like I said in my original post, he always had it coming...
But then, Clinton couldn't do more than bomb his Aspirin factory....
And I'm not sure if anybody remembers, but when 9-11 happened, Clinton wasn't appalled like the rest of America, rather, he was downright jealous it didn't happen on his watch.......

Henry Lee Lucas and Ottis Toole

The exact number of people these two killed is unknown, but they have confessed to hundreds of murders, although in many case it appears many of the ones they admitted to may have simply been due to the police using them to close files.

Ottis also bragged about being a cannibal and would eat people simply to save on grocery bills.
Henry claimed he wasn't a cannibal because he didn't like Ottis's BBQ sauce.

The movie Henry Portrait of a Serial Killer was loosely based on them.

77 Joseph McCarthy -

Former Wisconsin Senator who invented McCarthyism  -  the practice of making accusations of subversion or treason, especially when related to communism, without any proper regard for evidence. The term refers to U.S. senator Joseph McCarthy (R-Wisconsin) and has its origins in the period in the United States known as the Second Red Scare, lasting from the late 1940s through the 1950s. It was characterized by heightened political repression and a campaign spreading fear of communist influence on American institutions and of espionage by Soviet agents.

He single handedly destroyed many peoples careers and lives.

When I went to Spain in late 2018 / early 2019 one of the places they had originally planned to take us to the Valle de los Caídos in San Lorenzo de El Escorial, where  he was originally buried but they weren't able to take us there.  Franco just got moved out to another cemetery a couple years ago.  Burying him at the Valley in the first place was an own goal by the Spanish Government at the time as Franco didn't want to be buried there but the government insisted and gave him an honor he totally did not deserve.

No, RC, that did not originate with me, that's very old Christian doctrine. It's been spoken of by everyone from Billy Graham to...well, a great many others. It was a frequent admonishment when we'd act up in grade school. "Everything you do bad, you make Jesus guilty of doing."

To take on a sin means it becomes yours. The responsibility for it, the guilt. Jesus became guilty of the wrongdoing of those whose sins he accepted upon himself. "The unblemished sacrifice who became guilty of the sins of the world."

Heck, an evangelical preacher even have me good karma for the post, if you notice.

I'm surprised you've never heard of that, let alone John, since it's in the Catholic Mass, both Trindentine (which dates from the third century) and in many versions of the Novus Ordo Mass, which was formulated in the 1960s and altered more recently in the United States under a conference of American bishops headed by Archbishop Pilarczyk in the 1990s.

I don't see how I belittled anyone posting that. John on the other hand replied, belittling me, if you notice.

What I posted came from what I was taught in my upbringing, and obviously I’m not alone in taking that interpretation. If someone disagrees or comes from a background that taught otherwise, I respect that.

I will mention one thing here. You know how as he was dying Jesus called out, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” Did you know that was him referencing Psalm 22, which he was fulfilling at that moment? Well in that psalm there is the line, “I am a worm, hardly human.” There is nobility in most self-sacrifice, but the self-loathing Jesus evinced then is sometimes explained by the fact that in completing his mission he had taken on wrongdoings from across time, becoming in effect as low as a worm, and barely human, as I think we all agree some people are in this world.

It’s something to think about, both for the message of the Pslam and the fact Jesus was fulfilling something written in the 6th century BC.

(I just wanted to add that.)

Try to inject LOGIC into your argument, then maybe I will take you serious.

All right, how about I make this my last reply to the matter?

I cited Billy Graham because millions of people have a high opinion on his knowledge of his religion. I was saying if my statement about Jesus was ignorant, then experts share the same ignorance.

As for logic, well, believing in something in part because an event predicted in the 500s BC came true in the 1st century AD might be termed logical, but your bigotry against religion is something you've made well known.

I don't know if you're drinking now but sobriety honestly does often allow clearer thinking, so if you are partaking, maybe consider this another time?

As far as the rest goes, you're the one who brought up this topic of religion.

ER's original post was a bit tongue in cheek, but she has clarified it sufficiently.
The whole point of the redemptive work of Christ was that he took on the sins of the world in order to pay the price for our sakes.
The Bible plainly says: "He who knew no sin BECAME SIN on our behalf."
It's fine if you reject Christianity - you've made it clear long since that you have no regard for any religion - but what she was expressing in her own wry fashion is an age-old doctrine of the Church, as she referenced in her second post.

I NEVER push my atheism onto others- meanwhile she's ok to preach to others.
I took the first post as some kind of joke. But she dragged it out and defended what she said on and on. When it offended John, she kept prodding. For what purpose?

Pretty talk. No substance. What was your point in the first place for posting Christ as evil? Beyond being a smart ass?
You call me out for not being religious- yet it's ok for you to joke about Jesus Christ being evil.

Sorry, you're all wrong. The answer is: Jesus.

Why? Because Jesus took on the sins of the others, meaning Jesus was guilty of treason, murder, child rape, theft, bestiality, watching the BBC without a license, spitting on the sidewalk, you name it.

What? Didn't you guys ever spend thirteen years in Catholic school?

That is a purposefully ignorant depiction of a Catholic tenet.

".... He takes on the sins of the world...." Is said in every Mass, John. Don't you pay attention?

Your characterization still is a purposefully ignorant depiction of a Catholic tenet.

John, if you care to cite, in private, exactly how I am misrepresenting fundamental Christian  doctrines repeatedly clarified to me and my classmates in theology lectures by a Jesuit scholar with double doctorates, please feel free, but to say I'm wrong and then offer no other counterpoint doesn't bring anything to this hijacked discussion. The Catechism of the Catholic Church is available online and it might help broaden your familiarity with the faith you think you're defending if you take some time to study exactly what the catechism says on this matter.

The stories of him doing that post-date his invasion of Ireland by a century.  There is no real contemporary evidence that he did so.
Cromwell became a convenient whipping boy for the Irish, since with the restoration of the monarchy he was an Englishman they were allowed and encouraged to hate. He did lay down a pretty good buttwhipping on them, but his tactics were no more or less brutal than the typical invading army of the time.

Wrong.  There is evidence in CROMWELL's own lifetime of him denying such charges that he blamed on out-of-control troops.  He hated Catholics and the Irish. "Whipping boy" after the English practice of waging their wars over the Irish sea so as to avoid damages to their own homeland?  There has been a lot of restoration of Cromwell's image since the 19th century, all politically motivated.  You also offer convenient contemporaneous excuses.

The best analysis I have read of Cromwell's Irish campaign was by an Irish historian.   I don't remember his name, but the title of the book was CROMWELL: THE HONORABLE ENEMY.  His point was that Cromwell's armies were no more nor less brutal than other 17th century armies, and that many of the atrocity stories were either exaggerated or completely fabricated, when analyzed in light of contemporary records and/or archeological evidences.

One example he sighted was a town, I believe called "Drougheda" or something like that (the book is in my library at work and I'm at home), in which Cromwell was alleged to have put to death every man over the age of ten in the town, and burned all of its buildings to the ground.  Yet there is a record of the city's council meeting in a guildhall a month after the alleged massacre, with all members in attendance.

That is not convincing.  Good remarks, but there remains evidence that Cromwell really did terrible things in Ireland.

Unfortunately for me I just don't read anymore.  I have read some obscure sources regarding the history of the three kingdoms my family comes from.  I will challenge you to advise if you can find the surname of the executioner of CHARLES I.  I believe that ancestor is an ancestor on my father's side.  In any case, there is much difference of opinion on Cromwell.  And interest.

PETER KURTEN - the "Vampire of Dusseldorf" was a serial killer in Germany in the 1920's who killed young runaway boys, butchered them, and then served their meat to unwitting customers at his meat market.  He was executed by guillotine, as I recall.

Has anybody put Donald Harvey on the list? Heck, did I long ago? I should check but too tired.

If not, then can I submit him for number eighty-eight?

I guess someone like Donald Harvey brings up the question, is everyone who commits horrific deeds evil? Was Harvey evil (his actions certainly were) or is a better word "twisted"? Maybe evil requires sanity and a recognition that what one is doing rejects the notions of goodness, and yet one willingly descends into the state of evil? I'm not sure people like Donald Harvey or H.H. Holmes or Jeffrey Dahmer begin on a level playing field and so may not be evil, even if they do evil. After all, there is such a thing as insanity.

To say someone is evil....well, are we judged on who or what we are, or are we judged by what we do, and the deeds are what defines evil, more than the doer?

Maybe?

93, Lavrentiy Pavlovich Beria, Stalin's right-hand man, head of state security and internal affairs in the USSR.

Beria was  a serial rapist, a sadist, a corrupt and cruel man, and many think he was intended to be Stalin's posthumous "revenge" on the world, since it was expected by many, especially Beria himself, that Beria would be Stalin's successor.

The executioner who put him down the summer after Stalin's death did a very good day's work.

One thing Putin is NOT is an idiot.  The man is ruthless, evil, opportunistic, and cynical - but he's clever, perhaps even brilliant.  He's remained at the top in Russia for 20 years now, no easy task.  And, for all his wickedness, he's generally effective and pragmatic.  He's outlasted every U.S. President this century and will outlast this one, too, I suspect.

95. Thomas Midgley.

The man whose two most famous inventions have been responsible for a number of deaths that can only be guessed at, not to mention the environmental damage they inflicted. There is evidence that he was at least aware of the potential health risks of adding lead to petrol but ignored them under pressure from his employers, although I'd say he can be given a pass for using CFC's in refrigerators as it wasn't known back then how much damage that would cause. I doubt he set out to kill anyone and I thought long and hard about wither he should be on this list, but as they say, the road to hell is paved with good intentions.

It is perhaps oddly fitting that he himself died as a result of one of his inventions when he got caught up in some of its ropes and was strangled.
