Title: Detective Series Recomendation
Post by: Gabriel Knight on May 03, 2021, 07:41:18 AM
Hi everyone. I'm looking for your wisdom and recomendations.
Recently I rewatched A TOUCH OF FROST, a british series of a detective based on a bunch of novels, and it's just so good. Probably one of my favorite series ever. I love the grim and realistic tone of the series, the well executed drama, the amazing characters, the low budget feel, and the running time, which was consistently at 100 minutes.

Now, after finishing it, I don't have much to watch during my dinners, so I'm looking for something similar to fill up my time. I tried to watch something modern but I simply can't handle that stuff. Tried LINE OF DUTY, which was very recommended, and I hated the first minutes of it. Can't stand the car chases, can't stand the constant use of shacky camera to make you think it's dramatic, can't stand the polished look, can't stand the way actors talk now, it's so robotic and cliche.

So, any ideas? Regardless of what I said early, I welcome newer titles, just to give them a try. Perhaps I'll do the same with LINE OF DUTY, sometimes I do get these things in the wrong state of mind.

I don't particularly like detective series, but one I did enjoy was "Longmire." It's set in the modern American west (Wyoming) and has a cowboy feel. It started as a murder-of-the-week thing but developed a couple of running plots. Netflix only, which could be an issue for you.

Thanks all for the recomendations! I'll check them in IMDb so I can put them in viewlist (or else I'll forgot, that's basically my notebook). I came across another one that basically fills everything I need: INSPECTOR MORSE. British, from the 80s, 100 minutes running time, the whole deal.

They did do a prequel and sequel series to Morse. The first is him as a young policeman (Endeavour) and the second follows his protege, Lewis (also the name of the show).

Can't promise that with your tastes it is one you'd enjoy but have you ever seen Cadfael? It's a medieval murder mystery series. Might be worth checking out and seeing what you think.

Never heard of a medieval murder mystery, that sounds pretty good. I actually loved RIPPER STREET because of the time period, since they had to come up with inventive ways to obtain proof. I'll check it out, thanks!
