Title: Feeling relieved and vindicated
Post by: Trevor on June 25, 2021, 10:22:13 AM
As most of you know, I was passed over for promotion last year and that was very painful to know that a job I have always wanted was yanked away from me due to employment laws here. A few months ago, I started getting queries about a missing film in our archives which no one was aware of and no one could find. These queries later became nagging and a few weeks ago, escalated into blatant threats of complaints to our bosses.

The person who had been promoted over me did not do anything to help the situation by ducking it  :hatred:, so I (like the schmuck I am) offered to go through our vaults and check for this film.

Two days ago, I found the film: all reels accounted for and in good condition. Naturally, everyone fell over themselves to claim credit for finding it but I had found it, me, who had been passed over for promotion and who got his sh*t together enough to rescue the situation, find the film and make the client back off from threats.

This proves that the job I so wanted should have been mine.

As long as your poking around in archives- check out and see if LONDON AFTER MIDNIGHT (1927) is hiding in there someplace...!

I wish I could find that but something grabbed my leg in one of the other storage vaults  :buggedout:

Thanks: it still stings that I didn't get that job but the law is the law, even if it sucks sometimes.

Perhaps someday mankind will achieve utter and complete equality.  Until then, fair-play is off the table and most success is not achieved on a level playing field.  That being said, you demonstrated the job should be yours.

Thanks, AHD: I'm going to be talking to my mentor later in the week about this and how I feel. She knows me years now and I shouldn't get into any you-know-what because of it.

Andddd....... a news flash. Just got an email from the person who got the job I so desperately wanted, thanking me for the job I did. I would have actually liked to have said something rude in return but I thanked the person instead.

At least you have been acknowledged. I hope that counts for something with you and well done mate.

Thanks: I carry failure and hurt around for a long time, right from my being thrown away as an unwanted infant so it started there and continues 53 years later.  :bluesad:

I still believe that because of the laws regarding employment here, my interview in 2020 was just a box check, nothing more as almost all of my colleagues knew how much I wanted the film curator's job and then the later reasons for me not getting it were given to me by my work mentor were also a lot of BS.

This person will not last long in the job - too much pressure and too much to do - and I will be waiting for the day when I claim that job.

And a newsflash: the 35mm print I found has now been transferred to 2K, restored and released

https://severinfilms.com/products/shadowed-mind-blu (https://severinfilms.com/products/shadowed-mind-blu)

The blurb mentions "now scanned uncut from the director's own 35mm print" so that is the one I located when no one else could. * :teddyr:

* At least I hope it is.

I want you to know that you're always wanted here.
Well, maybe not always.  Most of the time though.   :twirl:

This movie is directed by Cedric Sundstrom, the director of American Ninja 3: Blood Hunt and American Ninja 4: The Annihilation and this was his pet project for a while, filmed at a deserted railway siding and abandoned building in Pretoria central.

Unfortunately the film was banned outright by the apartheid censors and remained unseen for many years due to its' full frontal male and female nudity (not mine, thankfully  :buggedout: ) and its' extreme violence. The print we have was restored, scanned and digitized so hopefully it will be appreciated and yes, it is well worth watching.

My thoughts on it:

Quote
The best way to describe this film – a truly frightening tale of an insane asylum for the super deviant / super rich and the psycho killer in their midst – is possibly Jannie Totsiens on acid, as it takes what Jans Rautenbach could do no more than suggest then and shows it and then some. A woman is admitted to a strange asylum with even stranger inmates – her arrival almost coincides with two major problems for the asylum: one, its’ director is looking for possible funding and some of the inmates are getting themselves brutally slaughtered. Visually striking with a prowling camera, a nerve jangling sound effects track and long banned under the old, repressive Publications Control Board’s film destroying culture criteria, the film is certainly director Cedric Sundstrom’s best to date. Starring Adrienne Pearce, Rufus Swart and Towje Kleiner.
