Title: SLUGS (1988)
Post by: RCMerchant on August 01, 2021, 07:18:40 PM
About killer snails. The slowest animal on planet Earth.

Works good because this is one of the stupidest movies on planet Earth.  And played really serious.
I LOVE this tripe! ( Tripe as in cooked, steaming guts!)

It's on Tubi if you want an alternative to hanging a rope from the basement pipe!

I remember reading the Slugs & Breeding Ground when I was at school. Enjoyed the movies as silly fun.

think I read all Shaun Hutson's books up to 'Renegades' when I was at school. some like Nemesis properly traumatised me for a while

He does a great commentary track on the Arrow (I think) release of SLUGS. completely takes the p___ out of the whole film

Since I watched that movie, I check my salads very carefully.

I'll need to watch out for a copy of that. Got a few of his novels (maybe half a dozen), so I wouldn't call myself a huge fan but I do like reading him now and again.

yeah his style is very easy to read. pulp fiction... quite repetetive though. I remember he would use the same similie about skyscrapers "pointing at the sky like accusatory fingers" in just about every book he wrote!

the guy who made SLUGS also did PIECES, which is a top 5 slasher for me. SLUGS is kind of fun but not in the same league imo

Just out of curiosity, have you ever read Guy N. Smith? He has a very similar style to Hutson and was wondering if you'd came across him.

I've never read any but I've heard of him, because I'm sure Shaun Hutson has said Guy N Smith's novel Night Of The Crabs was his inspiration to become a writer... in fact I'm pretty sure he says this in the commentary track on SLUGS, weirdly enough

not surprised their styles are similar, if so...

I wasn't aware of that, but it does make sense. A few times I had wondered if it was the same author using a pseudonym.

he also gives a shout out to this book in the commentary, which I feel I have to read just based on the art work

it's over £100 a copy and out of print though.

back to slugs... I've noticed that if I put my cat outside in his garden enclosure with his bowl of food (meat) in the evening, if I leave the bowl on the ground by mistake it will always be covered in slugs after an hour or so... I never see slugs at any other time in my garden, but somehow they can detect meat really well !

this was the version I had. all his books had really cool artwork with writing in gold or silver font... they've heen reprinted a few times with frankly crap artwork

here's a few others I read back then
