Title: What bands have you seen live?
Post by: RCMerchant on August 01, 2021, 08:32:12 PM
I seen the Melvins, the Rev Horton Heat, and White Zombie at Wings Stadium in 1995!
At the same show!

http://youtu.be/H0dDHiND0io (http://youtu.be/H0dDHiND0io)

White Zombie had a great show, but the Melvins had the best music!
The Rev was great, too, but there was a punk rock/metal head crowd that night. We were "caught in a mosh", as the old phrase goes.

Not many. In my pre-teens I saw Bob Marley in concert one year before he passed away. Also seen

Fleetwood Mac
Little River Band
Don McLean
Bryan Adams
Prince
Luniz
Scorpions (not meant to go, was given free tickets)

I declined free tickets for AC/DC when they went on some mega tour in the late 2000s I think? If I remember correctly tickets were like €200 and up. Also didn't take free tickets for Robbie Williams concert in Prague in 2017. It was a huge event. Everyone and their mom went to that concert, except me.

One the best shows I ever saw was Gwar circa like 88 or 89, mostly because we had no idea what it was gonna be!

If a show was billed as all ages we would go because it was something to do. All the sudden there were vikings on stage and blood flying everywhere

During the late 80s and early 90s I went to concerts the way some people go to church. In the words of Ozzy Osbourne, "rock and roll was my religion and my law."

My first concert was Judas Priest and Dokken, June of '86. I was sixteen years old.

Then came AC/DC, L.A. Guns, Whitesnake, Great White, Metallica, and on and on.

The last show I saw pre-pandemic was The Cult in December of '19. That was my first concert in a couple of years.

I'm going to see Queensryche here in New Jersey next week. Rawk!

Yup, they opened for AC/DC when I saw them in 1988. Their first album had just come out. I had no idea who they were going in, but I bought that album a few days later. Haha

Joan played the Birch Hill Nightclub in NJ at least two or three times a year during the 90s, she always killed it.

The last time I saw her (circa 1995 or '96) she was appearing in a stage version of "Rocky Horror Show" off Broadway (I forget if she was playing Magenta or Columbia) and she'd shaved her head for the part. I guess word hadn't gotten around yet about her "new look," cuz when she came out with the chrome dome you could hear this collective "GASP! WTF?" from the crowd :D

the best hip hop show I ever saw was Gang Starr. Rap mostly stinks live, just guys rapping over a track. Gang Starr had their entire crew with them and DJ premier did all the cutting and scratching live.

would be remiss if I didn't mention Harry p***y. I saw them twice and each show was total chaos. The two guitars were out of tune and missing strings and the drummer was a hot chick who screamed into a headset as she played. They were somewhere between suburban thrash and Sonic Youth. you see so many bands just going through their set trying to be the next thing. They should take a few lessons from those guys

Just remembered The Fabulous Thunderbirds. Forgettable...

More coming back to me. Brave Combo, a punk polka band. Tom Waits. And Townes van Zandt, who was actually astounding and one I shouldn't have forgotten.

I also saw Willie Nelson, John Mellancamp and Bob Dylan on a triple bill. Nelson was old and sleepwalking through his act. Dylan played with his back to the audience and did unrecognizable renditions of his hits. Mellencamp, unexpectedly, was great.
