Title: What are your worst movies?
Post by: Alex on September 07, 2021, 03:41:15 AM
Out of curiosity, I was wondering what the members here view as the worst films ever made? I don't mean ones that are so bad they are good, I mean ones you get absolutely no enjoyment from.

Anyway, the ones that occurred to me are:

Solaris (US remake).
Demon Cop.
Highlander 2.
The Avengers (the Uma Thurman movie, not the Marvel one).
Cool World (I thought Kim Bassinger was more attractive as a cartoon than in real life).
Raptor Ranch (I just wanted everyone involved in the film to die so it would be over).
Batman Forever.
Batman & Robin.
Aliens Vs Predator 2 (when new characters were introduced I started timing them to see how long they'd be in the movie for before dying).
Into The Woods (I fell asleep watching this in the cinema).

I may add others as I recall them.

way too many... wouldn't even know where to start

Highlander 2.

this is firmly in so-bad-it's-good territory for me... some of connery's lines made me spill my tea

These are the three movies I've given the lowest possible rating on letterboxd:

War of the Planets (1977)
Monstroid (1980)
The Curse of Bigfoot (1978)

I remember almost nothing about any of them.

If my account went back longer I'd probably have more; I watched a lot of terrible movies in my 20s and 30s.

I "liked" HIGHLANDER 2 as a so-bad-it's-good movie, too.

These are some of my most hated mainstream movies (in no particular order):

* DUNE (David Lynch)
* EXORCIST II
* WIRED (the John Belushi bio)
* FEVER PITCH (the 1980s movie with Ryan O'Neal)
* REVOLUTION (with Al Pacino)
* CADDYSHACK II
* ROCKY IV (well, it's a silly-ass movie, but at least it's entertaining)
* HOWARD THE DUCK
* THE SAINT (Val Kilmer)

I'm sure I forgot a few . . .

Here are some that come to mind:

Eraserhead  (one of the few movies I hated enough that I shut it off before it was over)
Slumber Party Massacre
Return of the Living 4 & 5
Day of the Dead 2: Contagium (I can't believe I actually bought this piece of $hit :lookingup:)
Redneck Zombies
Night of the Living Dead: 30th Anniversary Edition (the one where John Russo added a bunch of newly recorded, pointless garbage scenes to the 1968 classic :hatred:)
The Bridges of Madison County (as Charlie said on Two and a Half Men... Even Clint Eastwood doesn't think it's a Clint Eastwood movie)
A Virgin Among The Living Dead (I think I gave up on that one before it was over, too)
The Beguiled (sorry Clint, I hated that one too)
Changeling (snooze fest with Angelina Jolie (wasn't my choice to watch it))
White Hunter Black Heart (another Clint Eastwood movie that few remember a for good reason)
The Sixth Sense
Easy Rider (overrated crap with a WTF ending)

I'm sure there would be lots of others (like the Ghostbusters remake) that would be on the list if I was forced to sit through them.  There is a difference between bad and just plain $hit.

Not an exhaustive list. Off the top of my head, only including movies I've seen all the way through:

UFO: Target Earth - I wanted a model space ship, but the aliens in this were energy beings, so there was no model FX.
They aka, Invasion from Inner Earth
End of the World

A few other 70's no-budget sci-fi films where characters walk around for an hour & occasionally say something the director thought was deep. I don't want to try to list them all.

Pokémon 3
Pokémon: Mewtwo Returns - These were written by the series' former head writer, Takeshi Shudo. He was getting tired of the series, & it shows.
Batman & Robin - Some cool FX, but it gave me a headache.
Space Mutiny
Alien 3
Dune
War of the Robots - I liked Cosmos: War of the Planets & Star Odyssey, but this was sloooooooow.

Just off the top of my head...

Carnage (1983, Andy Milligan)
My first (and last) Milligan film. After this I resolved to avoid anything with his name on it.

Sleepaway Camp
(seriously, I have no idea why this movie is so revered among horror freaks. Aside from the what-the-f*** twist ending, it's not much more than a dollar store Friday the 13th)

Jaws: The Revenge
(the worst movie I ever paid to see in a theater!)

Sleepaway Camp
(seriously, I have no idea why this movie is so revered among horror freaks. Aside from the what-the-f*** twist ending, it's not much more than a dollar store Friday the 13th)

The ending scared the crap out of me when I first watched it in my teens. The ending still remains one of a kind.

What makes Sleepaway Camp so appealing to me is the mixture of unintentional humor, weird camp/soap drama, compelling acting from Felissa Rose (Angela), awkward acting from Desiree Gould (Aunt Martha), played-straight-but-rofl-scenes with Meg dating Mel who is at least 30 years older, fun and gory f/x, Iconic lines ("Meet me at the waterfront after the social") and Judy, my favorite slasher biatch. All this is very entertaiining for me.

I was watching a bit about dislikes on youtube the other day. What most people don't know is that dislikes are actually as good as likes. The more dislikes the more popular, more views, more traffic. It is money in the bank and a win-win for the uploader and youtube.

They say if you really want to "hurt" a video you dislike on youtube, it is best not to press dislike.

Glancing thru the lowest-rated entries on my Letterboxd account reminded me of a few more forgotten gems (and by "gems" I mean "turds")...

Tunnels aka Criminal Act - Catherine "Daisy Duke" Bach as an investigative reporter in a movie where absolutely nothing interesting happens.

Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance - makes the original G.R. movie, which was no prize, look like solid gold.

Rubber - yeah, the "killer tire" movie. I felt like I was being trolled for 90 minutes.

A Talking Cat? - a kiddie movie made by David "Creepozoids" DeCoteau. Hilarity does not ensue.

Satan's Little Helper - If memory serves, this was Jeff "Squirm" Lieberman's first movie in something like fifteen years. He should've stayed retired.

Fifty Shades of Gray - This tedious housewife porn is the least erotic "erotic thriller" I've ever seen. I've gotten a bigger charge out of a "Charmed" re-run.

The Mangler - the worst Stephen King adaptation? Possibly.

Nadja - Artsy mid '90s B&W vampire crap. Looks like one of those old Calvin Klein commercials stretched out to feature length.

I could go on, but I'll let someone else have a turn...

RUBBER is great! You were being trolled. You have to enjoy it in exactly that way. It's an absurdist comedy. I think it's hilarious overall and exceptionally clever.

A TALKING CAT? is truly terrible, on another level, but it made for one of the best Rifftrax I've ever heard.

it was clear no one involved had any idea how to write or direct a movie and it took every bad turn it possibly could. I called it a "cataclysm" and I stand by that

I got what RUBBER was trying to do, and I tried to treat it as a "comedy," I just didn't find it particularly funny, just irritating. :D

And as long as I'm back in this thread, here's one I forgot previously:

Meet Joe Black , with Brad Pitt.

I will never forget renting this with my then-girlfriend (now wife). After about an hour and a half I was bored out of my mind and thought to myself, "well, it's been about 90 minutes, so this should be over soon...." then I looked at the back of the VHS box and saw that the film's run time was THREE HOURS ... so there was another hour and a half to go!

At that point I understood why animals will sometimes gnaw off their own leg to escape from a trap. :D

Monstroid (1980)

I first saw this masterpiece on Elvira Mistress of the Dark's Elvira's Movie Macabre in the early '80s on TV. Her rip on it was hilarious! I need to get that box set of hers off of Amazon someday. I remember the movie edit being so screwed up that the opening title credits called it Monstro, and Elvira ripped the hell out of that too!  :teddyr:

I can't think of a BRAD PITT movie I like.  Now SEVEN I like because of the box (Brad: "What's in the bo-o-ox...?  What is it...?") I especially like what's in the box.  And I like THELMA & LOUISE but fortunately PITT plays a part he perfect for (punk).

Man, I watched that one recently by catching it randomly on cable. My God, what a crappy movie, barely anything happens and most of it makes no sense. And the whole Nick Cage flipping out in his bike was hilarious.

Honestly i kinda like Fear.com (2002) not a great movie by any means but that one i kinda like.

as for Satan's Little Helper (2004) i borrowed that dvd years ago from that same friend that i posted about about the 3rd From Dusk till Dawn in another thread and holy mother of god is that movie awful.  i'm not talking about from dusk till dawn 3 either i haven't seen that one yet.

but Satan's Little Helper" (2004)  that film that film wow is it bad it needs to be buried further that those E.T. Atari video games were buried in (1983)

i'd rather play that awful game than watch that film ever again.  you can have fun with a bad game over a movie that is that bad.
