Title: Movie scores that don't fit the movie?
Post by: Trevor on November 08, 2021, 02:50:40 AM
My faves are

Cannibal Holocaust :buggedout:

Force 10 From Navarone

Although they're both great themes, I'm sure neither Riz Ortolani or Ron Goodwin watched the movies before scoring them.  :teddyr:

The first one that comes to mind is INSTICT. I think that movie is quite crappy, and feel like the Danny Elfman score is just so out of place. The scene where they're all in the institution and the awful main character urges them to break the cards, with that music in the background, is just embarrasing.

Young Guns. A western with a rock soundtrack. Ugh.

Omg, you made me remember A KNIGHT'S TALE, with Queen music on the background. I mean, I understand that it's sort of a spoof, but come on...

The scene in Demons where the punks are suddenly listening to Go West's We Close Our Eyes. XD

A classic example would be Ladyhawke (1985). The music is an irritatingly hip and modern (1980s) score obviously aimed at the teenage MTV crowd. It doesn't fit the tone of the movie, which is a medieval fantasy adventure. Imagine Schindler's List with a 1990s grunge-infused score. That would be the same level of wtf?

On the other hand it was nominated for best music at the 1986 Saturn Awards so, go figure.

Here's a weird one for you: SEVERED WAYS, which takes itself extremely seriously until the two characters start to bang their heads with the sound of heavy metal coming out of nowhere. The rest of the soundtrack is actually quite appropiate, but that part is simply hilarious.

For me it's Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. In these days where new cuts of classic movies appear out of nowhere, somebody should release a version of the movie with a decent score.

Burt Bacharach belongs in a lounge bar, not a western.

The Rainmaker starring Matt Damon has some music that absolutely doesn't go with the scenes.

When Queen did a score for METROPOLIS (1927)
Queen? Why not just name it 'Wayne's World Version of Metropolis"

Phillip Glass blasting loud orchestra music over the 1931 DRACULA was awful.
