Title: Christmas crap Post by: Rev. Powell on November 24, 2021, 03:20:02 PM Give me a break. Here's a partial list of new movies being released just this week, per Rotten Tomatoes:
A Holiday Chance The Nine Kittens of Christmas A Loud House Christmas Angel Falls Christmas Christmas CEO Reba McEntire's Christmas in Tune An Unexpected Christmas Time for Them to Come Home for Christmas Merry Liddle Christmas Baby Christmas at Castle Hart Royally Wrapped for Christmas Making Spirits Bright Christmas in Tahoe The Christmas Contest Miracle in Motor City Christmas Is You How is this even possible? I mean, I like Christmas, but how can the market possibly support such an infusion of cookie-cutter crap? Title: Re: Christmas crap Post by: pacman000 on November 24, 2021, 03:43:10 PM Just B-Grade TV movies. How could the 60's market sustain all those beach party films? How could the 30's market sustain all those East Side Kids films? How could the 80's market sustain all those slasher films?
Simple: they're targeted at an audience. These audiences can be really specific. Think of Sun Classic Pictures; they focused on conservatives families, but they sub-divided that audience into smaller segments. Conservative families who like animal films; conservative families who like miracle films, etc. These aren't just Christmas movies; they're Christmas movies for people who like Reba, who like kittens, who want a cheese love story, etc. Title: Re: Christmas crap Post by: Rev. It's a seasonal thing, I get that, but this is ridiculous. Maybe bots really are making these? https://youtu.be/LVB25kDMN_Y Title: Re: Christmas crap Post by: RCMerchant on November 24, 2021, 04:12:30 PM How could the 30's market sustain all those East Side Kids films? Actually, most of those films were made in the 40's and 50's.... Title: Re: Christmas crap Post by: claws on November 24, 2021, 04:22:21 PM We started watching and making fun of christmas movies on Netflix a few years ago. They are like alternative reality movies or wishful thinking fantasy movies. They always try to be heartwarming and inspiring but they usually come off fake like press on nails.
On the other hand if these movies make people feel good then so be it. There's a movie genre out there for everyone to enjoy. Title: Re: Christmas crap Post by: bob on November 24, 2021, 04:43:28 PM a lot of those sound like title of crappy Hallmark movies
Title: Re: Christmas crap Post by: Alex on November 24, 2021, 05:17:18 PM I can actually answer this.
My mother-in-law. She watches these movies all year round and I believe generates enough advertising income to keep the whole industry going.
