Title: So this happened today . . .
Post by: indianasmith on March 04, 2022, 07:30:36 PM
During lunch today I walked from my classroom over to the elementary building to get some ice for my drink.  As I left the secondary building and was on the sidewalk, I heard something scraping the ground with every step and looked down to see a piece of plastic stuck to my heel.  I went to pluck it off, I realized it was a small plastic baggie - and inside was a Roman coin, a widow's mite, to be precise!   When I got it out, I saw that it was an exceptionally well-preserved example, better than any of mine.  Turned out one of my sophomores had brought it to show in another class, and she was very relieved that I had recovered it, since it was her Dad's.

But still - what are the odds of walking across a modern school campus and winding up with a 2000 year old coin stuck to your foot?

I don't have to find history.  It finds me!!
