Title: RAW FORCE (1982)
Post by: zombie no.one on March 21, 2022, 06:21:49 AM
This had completely evaded my bad-movie radar until the other day when I noticed it in my local HMV on bluray released by 101Films (possibly connected with Vinegar Syndrome?).

a totally bonkers film. like a mishmash of MASSACRE IN DINOSAUR VALLEY and ZOMBI HOLOCAUST, but with more sleaze. many scenes of absurd hilarity. would definitely recommend if you're into early 80s >insert genre<'splotation stuff

Rob Hill featured it in his book The Bad Movie Bible and I got the idea that it was bad but not this bad 😳😳😎💩

yeah I don't know why I've never heard of it before now Trev... it's a crazy ride  :drink:

it says 'to be continued' at the end. apparently there was supposed to be a sequel starring Jonathan Winters lol

A bad movie classic

back in VHS rental days it took me a long time to develop a taste for so-bad-so-good movies. Raw Force managed to crack me up right away.

I mean, this movie just looks like it should be watched on VHS... hi-def doesn't really lend itself to this kind of stuff

I feel exactly the same way about Percival Rubens' The Demon.

One of the producers, Hope Holiday was the executive producer of Space Mutiny.

:buggedout:

I have this on DVD-R. A treasure chest of badness.

I'm not familiar with it, but I looked it up and the cover is that kind of wonderfully over done type that the 80s did so well.  I'd be willing to check it out based on the art alone.

This movie is amazing. Camille Keaton from I Spit on Your Grave, Cameron Mitchell as the grouchy ship captain, some really killer martial arts and fight scenes... I can't tell you what this movie does wrong but I could go on all day about what it did right.

This gives an idea of what it was like on VHS, vs the new Vinegar Syndrome release:

original trailer:

Vinegar Syndrome remastered trailer:

I never saw this, but it was at the local VHS store in the mid 80s. Even then, it looked pretty terrible.

It's amazing how hidef can actually make a lot of movies look worse.  Some of them just weren't designed for High Definition viewing and watching them that way just makes them look really cheap.

More DVDs should give you the option of LOW-Def, that degrades the film quality and adds things like static and tracking errors at the start.  Make it look like you're watching it off a old VHS tape that's been viewed several hundred times already.

Or another option: transferred to DVD from a really crappy film print 😳😳😉🐢

have a couple which kind of do this… THE TOUGH ONES, where you can watch the unrestored looking ‘grindhouse version’, and recent THE BEAST MUST DIE Indicator release where you can watch a very scratchy super-8 version
