Title: I saw a financial advisor today
Post by: Trevor on April 22, 2022, 02:06:28 PM
We talked for almost an hour and it looks like that I will be finished with my work by the end of June 2022.

I am 99% sure of what I am about to do i.e. to call time on my career of over three decades and there are several reasons for this.

3: I am feeling old, tired, used up and sick. :bluesad:
2. I am scared that what happened to Dad will happen to me: after nearly 40 years of service in my home country, he lost his pension and over half of his money when he emigrated and Zimbabwe stopped sending out pensions to SA.

1. This is the main reason: Mom's care is expensive and I cannot continue paying for her care indefinitely. I need to be what I have always been - a good son, as she calls me - and I need to put her and her needs above me.

So, that's it: as from July, I will be on early retirement, Mom will be financially taken care of for the rest of her life and I will be OK.

Sounds like you made a thoughtful decision and I'm sure it will work out for you.  :thumbup:

Thanks Rev: my mentor acknowledged the other day that if I went, it would be a loss to the Department but I have to do what is right, not for me but for Mom. I actually came close to breaking down in her office the other day.  :bluesad:

If I go, Mom will be financially OK and looked after for the rest of her life: that is the main point of this.

I think I am going to shock a few people at work when I get back. But I have to do this.

No doubt they will not have seen it coming.  It has always been clear that you love your work.  It has been the major portion of your life.  It would be easy to think of you as being a permanent fixture there.

Do me a favour though:  go back and read how you have worded this thread.  Forgive me for addressing this but  it sounds alarmingly like you don't plan to go on living. 😳.

Hugs: I can't lie to you or anyone here: I have been very sick for a long time, meds help but they can only do so much.

As far as going on living, I feel I will be in a better state to cope with everything if I know Mom is looked after (for however long she is still with us) and if I know that the debt I have is paid. If something happens to me, the $$ I leave behind will go to her (strict stipulation in my will) and if Mom has passed, the money goes to Uncle Zombie's special niece and nephew for their education.

Thanks for the concern but I'm just planning ahead.  :smile: :smile:

{{Hugs}}

How you feel immediately after the deed is done will tell a great deal.   We will be thinking of you.
