Title: Cape Town trip Post by: Trevor on June 17, 2022, 10:29:38 AM I wanted to go back home to Zimbabwe for a few days after my retirement but something has cropped up which may mean I get to go there, all expenses paid.
A company in the UK wants a copy of a full length SA feature film and because there are no places left here which can fully transfer film to digital, they asked if I could send the print (all 5 reels of it :buggedout:) to the UK. My answer in short was Aikona [no!!]. I then offered a solution: I could accompany the print to London which is being considered but apparently there is a transfer unit in Harare which can do this (and I would be willing to go: Harare is not home but I'll take it). So, we shall see. :teddyr: Title: Re: I might be going home sooner rather than later Post by: RCMerchant on June 17, 2022, 10:55:21 AM Good for you!

Title: Re: I might be going home sooner rather than later Post by: Trevor on June 18, 2022, 01:17:26 AM Good for you! If I go, I guarantee that when I get off the plane in Harare I'll get very emotional. Harare isn't home but it will be nice to back in my birth country again. Title: Re: I might be going home sooner rather than later Post by: ER on June 18, 2022, 09:42:42 AM I'm excited for you!

And I happen to have a cousin in the industry who does documentaries. Indeed: he had quite a shady past, apparently he was friends with London gangsters and died a very mysterious death :buggedout: Title: Re: I might be going home sooner rather than later Post by: Newt on June 21, 2022, 04:39:22 PM Indeed: he had quite a shady past, apparently he was friends with London gangsters and died a very mysterious death :buggedout: 😳 I found the January 2008 article you contributed to. Colourful life! Title: Re: I might be going home sooner rather than later Post by: Trevor on June 24, 2022, 06:20:11 AM OK, the 35mm is checked and fixed*, my hands are clean again so now I'm waiting for the people to get back to me.
It would be nice to know "what's what" today (Friday) so I could enjoy my weekend. *There's nothing like spending a few hours winding a film through and then fixing splices and torn sprocket holes :buggedout: :buggedout: :buggedout: Title: Re: I might be going home sooner rather than later Post by: Trevor on June 28, 2022, 06:48:53 AM I still haven't heard anything from the people in the UK

Title: Re: Cape Town trip Post by: Trevor on July 16, 2022, 11:51:03 AM I was told that I would be going to Cape Town on Wednesday next week.
I will be staying here: https://www.southernsun.com/southern-sun-cape-sun (https://www.southernsun.com/southern-sun-cape-sun) With my luck and my slight fear of heights, I'm sure they'll put me on the top floor. :buggedout: Title: Re: Cape Town trip Post by: ER on July 16, 2022, 12:00:02 PM Courage, dear Trevor, heights have never hurt anybody in all of history. Now landing after falling from them....

You'll be safe.

And almost all tent-meteorite fatalities happen while someone is inside the tent, NOT on the meteorite!
