Well I saw Godzilla's 28th movie. It was going to have more monsters than even Destroy All Monsters. Did they pass?

*spoilers*

Pros:

-The return of many monsters, Angirus, Gigan, Ceasar, Manda, Kamakara, Spiega, Ebirah, Hedorah , Minila Gino (Zilla)
-All of the monsters look great and do some pretty cool things (even Gino, and except Hedorah who got do nothing)
- The climatic battle with Godzilla, Mothra, Gigan II, Monster X (and Kaiser Ghidorah) was really cool.
-The Anti-Monster Force is actually very cool this time. Instead of just having a giant robot, they have their own small fleet of Atragon like ships, also they have super foot solider's that fight the monsters on foot.
- The battles are (though some are brief) pretty entertaining.
-Lot's of references to past movies.
-Gino get's flattened in five seconds!
-And it was cool hearing music from Godzilla vs MEchaGodzilla (how could we miss it?)

Cons.

-Hedorah get's four seconds of screen time! (boooo!)
-Near the end it starts focusing a little too much on the humans.
-A little too much Matrix action.
-Some of the monster fights are a little brief.

I give it a 8/10.

Maybe a 10/10 if the fights had gone like this:

-take out 20 mintues of human time.
-Combine Kamakara and Spiega (and lengthen it)
- Zilla's fight was fine.
- It would have been awesome if instead of Rodan, Ceasar, Angiruis, Mothra dieing, they could show up and help Godzilla defeat the incrediblely tough Kaiser Ghidorah. Sort of a Destroy All Monsters reminder.

Well, I can't wait for the next one in 10 years or so.
Now it's time to sing the nation anthem IN AMERICA!!!

I've been reluctant to watch my copy.  Based on what I know of the movie from reviews and word of mouth, I doubt I would like it.

But, heck, it may very well be Godzilla's last movie.  (Peak Oil is looming on the horizon ...)

I LOVED the fact that the REAL godzilla beats Roland Emmerich's giant iguana in 10 minutes flat!

That would be more like a minute and a half.  I liked the comment that the Xillian leader made when Godzilla took him down.  "I knew that tuna-eating monster was useless!"

And you thought Trek isn't cool.

One thing quickly sprung into my mind:

isn't Roland Emmerich in a position to sue the makers of "Final Wars"?

Interesting, since I am currently writing the review for this.  I think that the director did a good job with the human (and mutant and alien) plot and also the action scenes and model battles.  The giant monster battles were disappointing.  It was mentioned that Godzilla kills Deanzilla in about 10 seconds, but many of the fights are over in a blink of an eye.

The captain of the Gotengo, a man by the name of Doug Frye (apparently a UFC and other "real" fights veteran and champ) was actually quite good despite his often wooden delivery.  I think that they just barely missed the mark that would have made him perfect.

Ozaki - the man who played the same part as Keanu Reeves in "The Matrix" in some ways and, of all things, looks exactly l ike Keanu would - if he was Japanese.

I liked the monster fights, but they were way too short and not a big enough part of the film.  Still, it was cool seeing Godzilla obliterate the competition.  BTW, the director is Ryuhei Kitamura if you haven't looked into it.  I definetly reccomend his first feature, Versus, if you haven't gotten to it yet.

Yeah, he was my favorite character.  I think it is Don Frye by the way - I've seen one or two of his fights.  Look for the early one against Tank Abbot if you want to see a fight where he might technically win, but in reality comes out much much worse than Tank.  Frye gets his face caved in and is bleeding all over the place, and Tank is just tired without a mark on him (he got grappled and tapped out).  You get the impression that if it had been a real fight to the death, Frye would have been in trouble (Tank is a thug you wouldn't want to mee in a dark alley, more or less).  Kind of funny, and one of the few UFC fights I've seen.
