Before I start, no this one it's not the upcoming (I hope) Tarantino WWII movie. It is an Italian war film starring, of all people, Fred Williamson and Bo Svenson and directed by the ubiquotius Enzo Castellari. From what I've heard, there are rumours that Tarantino's film, shall it ever be made, *may* be a remake of this one. Those appreciations are solely based on the title and the presence of Svenson.

Learn more about this one at: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0076584/

Plot: A group of allied soldiers are on their way to the militar court for different crimes when their convoy is attacked. The manage to escape, but they still are behind enemy lines. Eventually, the get mistaken by the partisans with a group of americans who are supposed to attack an armored train carrying one of Germany's ultimate weapons.

Comments: OK, so acting stinks (did ever Svenson learn how to act?), and plot is episodic in nature (nothing wrong with that, I've seen "The Big Red One" in its restored glory and can't complain), but Enzo Castellari keeps the action coming every few minutes, and he handles action pretty well, despite its low budget techniques, such as using the same shots from different angles repeteadily. Plot and characters are weak, mere walking cliches blatantly stolen from stuff like "The Dirty Dozen", but as I said they're not the main course here, shootings are, and there are lots of them, to the extent this movie must have the highest body count I've ever seen on a war movie.

So, cheese a plenty, bad acting and fun, fun, fun, gallore. Highly recommended, but try to avoid the "GI Bro" version, from what I've read many scenes were cut in order to turn the movie into a Williamson vehicle.
Due to the horrifying nature of this film, no one will be admitted to the theatre.

This sounds interesting, especially the title Inglorious bastards. I'll definitely have to check it out.

The Burgomaster

I saw this on HBO or Showtime or one of those channels way back in the early days of cable TV.  All I remember are 2 very ridiculous scenes (my facts might not be 100% accurate because I saw this movie at least 25 years ago):

* A guy on parachute lands exactly in front of another guy (tremendous accuracy).  As soon as he lands, he gives the password: "Happy days," and the other guy replies, "Are here again."  I couldn't stop laughing for about 5 minutes.

* A guy stops a time bomb by jamming it with a pencil.

I would LOVE to see this movie again!

With him doing so many rip-offs, it's about time Tarantino does a straightforward remake...

LMAO!!!! I second that!! Speaking of Tarantino - The guy knows a hell of a lot about movies. (At one point before his moviemaking and acting careers, wasn't he the co-owner of a video store?) Why doesn't he just concentrate on distribution? I know that a few movies have been distributed under his name, and that he funded the remastering of a few others (that weren't released on DVD in the States though). Of course he could still make his movies, but I think he's someone that could get the ball rolling for a lot of forgotten movies.

The Burgomaster

I have a copy of THE MIGHTY PEKING MAN DVD that is from Tarantino's signature collection (or something like that).  He sure picks strange movies to get involved with.

"Hostel" was the most awful movie with Quentin Tarantono's name slapped on it.

And I mean awful in a BAD way.
