After finally getting around to seeing LOTR, I must admit even with Elijah Wood it is one of the most incredible movies I've seen. I need more of it. When is the next one coming out? Please be sometime during the summer for all that is good and holy.

Cullen

It's coming out this summer.

That's a lie, of course.

"The Two Towers" comes out this Christmas.

"The Return of the King" comes out next year.

I feel your pain, however.  The year is passing ....so....slowly....

J.R.

I've seen LOTR too many times to admit without being labeled a geek. This flick's a revelation. And don't diss on Elijah Wood, this is a role that finally lets him play someone his own size. Even Enya couldn't bring this piece of gold down. But, I was thinking: One of the coolest parts of Return Of The King was when the orcs launch the decapitated heads of their enemies into Minas Tirith. Jackson would probably do a kick-ass job of that, but you can't have that kind of naughtiness in a PG-13 movie. The MPAA needs to be abolished. And one more thing: We need more Gimli!!!!

Indeed, the wait is too long.  Until then, we do have the laughably bad animated versions of The Hobbit, Lord of the Rings, and The Return of the King.  Or I guess we could always read the damn books again....

Sakerson

Oh where are you goin', with beards all a waggin'!

I have to admit I like the animated version of The Hobbit, even though the tone of it was much lighter then the book (i.e. made for kids).  Speaking of which, I wonder if Jackson will do a live version of The Hobbit (say, a few years after Return of the King).  December is such a long way off.  I guess I'll just have to read the books again....

And one more thing: We need more Gimli!!!!

In the books, Gimli doesn't really get much time in the first book, the second and third books have a lot more of him (and Legolas)

As much as Peter Jackson is getting RAVE reviews over LORD OF THE RINGS, if I were in his shoes I would jump right back in to make a gory horror-comedy. Maybe a sequel to BAD TASTE, or maybe a reworking of BRAINDEAD. Anything, just don't go "Hollywood" over us Jackson.

I heard somewhere that his next picture (After LotR) would center more on New Zealand.  Whether or not that's a good thing remains to be seen.  (I lean towards good.)

As for sequels or reworkings, I'm leaning against.  Another good horror-comedy would be nice (especially after watching "Scary Movie." UGH!)  However, what I am REALLY hoping he can do is the remake of "King Kong".  Peter Jackson's "King Kong" would be most excellent.

Peter Jackson is doing for New Zealand what Charles Band did for Romania :)

Future Boy 3000

I couldn't agree more. LOTR was really great and all, but we need another good horror-comedy. I can't even remember the last good horror-comedy, or even the last movie with lots of splatter. Crying shame if you ask me.

J.R.

I actually kind of like The Hobbit cartoon, too. Except that they made elves blue and had them talk with Romanian accents. WTF? I've been dying for a good splatter flick for years, but in this "post 9/11, more sensitive" time, no studio would greenlight it. Sigh. All horror movies made today follow the same pattern: Little to no gore, no gratuitous nudity, "self-referential" humor that just comes off as smartass pandering, and, oh, yeah- they're not horror movies!!!

Chris K.

Not to get off the subject of Peter Jackson, but J.R. pointed out a good reason why their are virtually NO HORROR FLICKS being made at this time: "post 9/11, sensitive" time. But as I always say, BREAK THE RULES and show that we can still go on. It's better to do this than to not do anything about it at all. And believe me, this is the truth. Make a stand now, or never make a stand at all.

Sometimes you have to look right into the eyes of both Hollywood and the MPAA and give them a royal "F**k you", break the rules, and keep going that extra mile.

Haven't seen LOTR yet. But I have seen Elijah Wood on a few late night talk shows. Why..why..WHY is he speaking with an Australian accent now? Look dude,(mate to you Elijah) I know he spent like 16-18 months in New Zealand, but dammit man...that's no excuse. Stop it!!! It's annoying. And pretty damned goofy. If you're Australian...then speak with an accent. If you're Elijah Wood..then DON'T!!!
Excuse my venting.
