Apocalypto's visuals.... Digital garbage?

I saw Apocalypto the other day.  Entertaining film, but nothing real special.

Anyways, the film looked VERY VERY digital, especially in motion.  Looked the way home videos look, motion wise.  It distracted me the entire film, in fact, and really damaged the experience.

I have seen a couple other films shot on digital that I don't get this vibe from, at least not that I can recall.  Once Upon a Time in Mexico, for instance, which didn't look super great (in my opinion) but its motion was fine.

Is it just the new Panavision's look bad motion wise, or what?

I noticed that in the opening sequences especially, but I either got used to it or didn't notice it much through the rest of the film.  At first I thought I was possibly watching a digital version of the film (it was in an auditorium that features a digital projector) 'cause it looked really nice and sharp otherwise, but it was a regular 35mm print.

I liked the movie, by the way.
