THE LONG HAIR OF DEATH (1964) - One of Barbara Steeles very best. It's the story of revenge of the wrongly accused mother of witchcraft and the oldest daughter who was also killed by a Count of a medieval village. The Count kills her and she comes back from the dead in a kind of conspiracy between two sisters one dead and the other forced to marry the Counts son. This film is all about the visual look and story along with some erie music. Lots of good lighting around the medieval village also lend alot to this fine film.  Part of my Tales Of Terror 50 movie pack. Anyone know why Barbara Steele starred in so many Italian Horror films?

(8 out of 10 Stars) Now I have to watch Black Sunday again.

I think this was my first Varbara Steele film.  To bad the only good release of it is that 50 pack.  The transfer is kinda crappy.  Anyways, I loved it, and I thought it was atmospheric as hell.

The Burgomaster

I recently watched NIGHTMARE CASTLE (also included in a 50 pack) and thought it was mediocre.  LONG HAIR OF DEATH is on my "soon to watch" list.

Burgomaster you'll like THE LONG HAIR OF DEATH much more than NIGHTMARE CASTLE and GHOST which are mediocre for sure.

Quabrot is right about the atmosphere being great in THE LONG HAIR OF DEATH. Welcome to the forum Quabrot.

As a huge Barbara Steele fan, I don't see how you can have a poll about our favorite Barbara Steele films and only give two choices!  My fave is "Castle of Blood," but I have all of her horror films and I love every one of them!  She definitely belongs right up there with Bela, Boris and Vincent as an icon of the genre, as well as being one of the most beautiful women that has ever lived.

Scott

Though I agree with you Ghoul for the most part concerning Barbara Steele.. Many of her films from the 60's were mediocre. I'll put CASTLE OF BLOOD up there for you.

Often wondered how come Barbara Steele did so many Italian Horror films and she was from England.

Scott

It's been a while since I saw CASTLE OF BLOOD and probably saw it before I knew who Barbara Steele was. Will have to watch that one again some day.

The ones that I didn't care for much were:

Terror Creatures From the Grave
The Ghost
Nightmare Castle

I did put up THE PIT AND THE PENDULUM on the poll. I really liked SHIVERS, but I wouldn't say she was a main character and THE CRIMSON CULT was also good.

the ghoul

Yeah, Shivers is a great one.  Barbara doesn't have to be a main character to steal the spotlight.  In fact, I couldn't even tell you the names of any of the other actors in the film!  I'm not sure why she starred in so many Italian films.  I think it could be something as simple as Italy being where she first made a name for herself.  Being more recognized by Italian producers and directors naturally got her more job offers in Italy than in other countries.

Never heard of this doggie.
Title sounds like its a sequal to THE DEMON BARBER OF FLEET STREET.
"Aggressivlly eccentric, and proud of it!"
