Some recent viewings

Beyond Re-Animator (2003) - Dr. Herbert West  is at it again, only this time from prison with the help of the brother of one of his victims.  West thinks he has found the solution to the homicidal behavior of his reanimated subjects.

There are some good effects in the movie especially the half - man that has it out for West for experimenting on his pet rat.  The funniest part of the movie is during the ending credits when said rat is fighting it out  with the warden's reanimated severed penis. 

I was a little disappointed by the lack of nudity in the movie.

Junior (aka Engine Trouble) (2002) - Belgian made slasther movie about two girls on a road trip who make a stop at the wrong gas station.  Seems the owner makes a hobby out finding entertainment for his homicidal brain damaged-at-birth son.

Pretty run of the mill slasher fare.



Warriors of the Wasteland (1982) - A bad spaghetti western set in a post apocalyptic world. Boy, those Italions have a sense of fashion don't they? Dig those shoulder pads.

A band of white clad maniacs calling themselves the Templars are hell bent on destroying what's left of mankind as revenge for the nuclear holocaust.  Their only major opposition is a wanderer called Scorpion and his friend Nadir (Fred Williamson) . They also run into a caravan of God worshippers led by what looks like an Italian version of Billy Jack.

Lots of badly staged fights and car chases. I think they got a bargain basement deal on plexiglas, seeing that almost every vehicle is adorned with the stuff. I gotta have me a 69 Firebird with a bubble dome on top and dryer vent tubing coming out of the hood.

It's a pretty silly  Road Warrior rip-off (like most of them were). How come every Italian director thinks he 's Sergio Leone?


My Name is Nobody (1973)- Nobody(Terence Hill) is bent on making his boyhood idol, a gunfighter named Jack Beauregard (Henry Fonda), a legend by setting him up to take on the 150 man Wild Bunch single-handed.

This is a funny movie and well worth watching.  Terence Hill's quick draw shenanigans are famous and even featured in a currently running tv commercial.  The score by Ennio Morricone is a great send up of his previous work on the Clint Eastwood westerns.  The Ride of the Valkyries, played on what sounds like an accordian,  every time the Wild Bunch comes thundering by is quite amusing.

My only complaint is the part at the end with Fonda reading his letter to Nobody. It really seemed to drag on.

The closing scene with Henry Fonda writing about "guys like you" might be on first viewing a downer, but it really fits the whole story.

MY NAME IS NOBODY is in my top ten films ever made list. When I first saw it I had never viewed the other Leone films with Eastwood, so the whole thing including the music was really great. More than the Spaghetti Western element this movie has a deeper feel to it than most. Some how I can associate with the whole concept. It hits all the right spots for me. Henry Fonda is also a big plus.

Good God, Junior was terrible wasn't it?

I vaguely remember seeing it a few years back and, other than the semi-cool looking killer, couldn't find anything even remotely redeeming in it.  The crazy father business (am I remembering the right movie?) was about where I drew the line.

The worst part, I blew about eight bucks on it.

I was sorely disappointed in Beyond Re-Animator.  I thought that it was well below par in terms of acting and quality.  Jeffery Combs of course was always great but the rest of the cast was awful, though the blond spanish actress was very, very cute.

Warriors of the Wasteland is beyond awful.

Haven't seen Junion but I had seen it for rent occasionally, it looked terrible just from the DVD box.

The worst part is the thing on the box (assuming it's the same box I had), isn't even in the movie.  I'd say it's false advertising, but nobody'd pick that thing up expecting much anyway.

Just watched My Name is Nobody, and have to say I rather enjoyed it.  I'm a huge fan of Once Upon a Time in the West, which Morricone self-references in his score for MNIN, and I have a friend who thinks the Trinity movies are amongst the best ever made.

Also, I recently saw Terence Hill in Superfuzz, so how could I pass this up?

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Nobody.  It's pretty funny, and scenes like Henry Fonda facing down the Wild Bunch make the movie seem larger than life.

Do a search for My Name is Nobody and my screen name for past topics on how much I love that film. The Fonda vs. the Wild Bunch scene is an early special memory for me, and I'm convinced it's part of the reason I'm a movie buff to this day.
