4 Films Revisted

Watched 4 films over again this month. Here they are:

Stripes - Bill Murray in the Army. It's always funny. 80's electronic gadgits are a bit distracting.

Encino Man - Still get a laugh from this one. California caveman with Pauly Shore.

Escape From New York - Still a good film idea. Those 80's screen graphics are rough. Carpenter writes, directs, and writes the music for this one.

Red Dawn - Always didn't like the tough Cuban leader and the small Russians in this film. Makes the film look cheap. Great idea for a film back then.

I chose Encino Man.

That movie never gets old.

Yea, I watched ENCINO MAN again "On Demand" from our cable company a few nights ago with my daughter and she thought that was hilarious. It's still a good one.

ESCAPE...by a long shot.  What a cast!  What dialogue!  "The president's dead...someone's had him for lunch."   "What's wrong with Broadway?!?"

Ya know, the production design work team included James Cameron and Bill Paxton.  In fact those computer screens, especially those motion/over the building ones were drawn by Cameron and animated to look computery.

I would pick Escape too, how can you say no to a Carpenter film?

One of many things I like about ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK is that pro wrestler Ox Baker is in the film as the opponet of Snake Pliskin played by Kurt Russell. Not to mention some of my favorite Western actors Lee Van Cleef and Ernest Borgnine. The whole concept of Manhatten Island becoming a prison with no guards within is great. Make them survive on their own as punishment.

I would pick Escape too, how can you say no to a Carpenter film?

I chose RED DAWN only because I have EFNY on VHS.  I used to have RED DAWN on beta back in the day.  So, I can watch ESCAPE any time, but it's been quite a while since I saw RED DAWN.

I saw it at the theatre when it first came out.  I loved it.  To me, it's one that worth a viewing every few years, though I admit it does not hold up all that well.  Still, it's fun stuff seeing a group of kids kick butt like that.

Iv'e seen STRIPES too often.It's ok,but nothing to write home about.

I should re-look at STRIPES since I've grown so fond of Bill Murray . . . RED DAWN made little impression but its been a long time; ENCINO MAN,  I might have watched with one eye . . .

I went with ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK, just 'cause it's still so much fun.

I'll vote for Stripes just because I haven't seen it all the way through unedited in a while.

EFNY I've seen so often I need to avoid it for a while to be able to reappriecate it. Not a perfect film, but some parts are fantastic examples of talent and creativity overcoming small budgets and resources. Also Russell and Carpenter made Snake a macho icon by underplaying, that's hard to do.

Not even the underrated Brendan Fraser can get me to sit through one more Pauly Shore flick, I've seen too much of that untalented idiot as it is. Life is too short.

I loved Red Dawn as a kid, I was the right age to take it at face value, and not old enough to see how absurd the central concept was. Very much a Cold War artifact. Alter viewings I've had find me picking the film and it's unsubtle kneejerk politics apart pretty harshly. Hard for me to watch it unironically now.
