Shadow snuck in a review for "Monster on the Campus" while everyone was getting ready for the 4th.  This is a film that I like, but have a hard time explaining why besides a few scenes.  Part of it could be the silly plot, with coelacanth blood turning anyone or anything exposed to it into a primitive and feral version of the original (for a short period).  The other is that the tragic hero, Dr. Blake, seems intent on bringing about his own death once he realizes that he is the monster.  Understand now, if he stops exposing himself to coelacanth blood (smoking it in his pipe, cutting himself on a tooth, etc), he will no longer turn into a killer ape man.

The forest ranger's death is also gruesome and unexpected.  Didn't the ape monster throw that axe at the guy?  Ouch!

I think my favorite bit is this part, which is pretty early in the review:

"Samson the dog laps up some of the bloody water and before you can say Wolfen, he is vicious as all hell, sporting fangs that would make Dracula cringe, barking up a bloody storm, trying to rip everyone's throat out and generally being a very bad doggie."

Bad doggie, indeed!

Yeah "Monster on Campus" is a great oldie; I love it! Sadly it is out of print on DVD. The Sci-Fi Movie Classics set that was originally a Best Buy Exclusive (the set also features "Tarantula," "The Monolith Monsters," "The Incredible Shrinking Man," and "The Mole People.), but could/can be obtained on Amazon.com or eBay. I think the lowest price I've seen on this set recently was $65.00! I only paid twenty for it when it first came out! Sheesh!

I looked on Amazon and saw that some were going for almost $300! Yikes! I wonder if Universal will produce more when that second set comes out.

The FDA has been looking for a generic name for Viagra. After careful consideration by a team of government experts, it recently announced that it has settled on the generic name of Mycoxafloppin. Also considered were Mycoxafailin, Mydixadrupin, Mydixarizin, Dixafix, and of course, Ibepokin.
