Supergator (2007)

SciFi Channel got the highest ratings for one of their SciFi Saturday movies from the Roger Corman produced DinoCroc. Well, they went to Roger and asked if he could provide some similar fare. He said "Of course, I have DinoCroc 2." When SciFi told him they didn't do well with movies with a 2 in the title, Roger says " Did I say DinoCroc 2 , I meant Supergator."

Whatever you call it, it was pretty mundane stuff with the same crappy CG monster as the first one . Brad Johnson shows up as a vulcanologist studying a volcano in Hawaii that's near a wildlife preserve and a resort town . Guess what has escaped into the preserve and now threatens the town?

The most surprising thing about this movie is the appearance of Kelly McGillis as the scientist who resurrected the DinoCroc (I mean Supergator) from the first movie. Man, I didn't even know it was her until I read the credits over at IMDB. She has not aged well.

The best thing about the movie is the scenery (it was actually shot in Hawaii).

Isn't it odd how the CGI effects in these SciFi Channel "originals" seem to keep getting worse and worse? There were many shots where they didn't even bother giving SuperGator a shadow.

We had to laugh each time Dinocroc, er, SuperGator attacked somebody and there was that same fountain of really fake-looking CGI 'blood' - then cut to the 'actor' writhing around on the ground covered in fake blood screaming "OOWWW! LEMME GO! AIEEE!".

SPOILER! (?) The death of SuperGator was particularly lame as the scene faded out right in the middle of his explosive demise, just like they sudden ran out of time/money to finish it. The fact the volcano that menaced the cast throughout the film "suddenly" went dormant seemed to be another sign of some last minute production shortcuts.

I'll say! I didn't even recognize her from the commercials for the film. She looks terrible.

The film was about as stupid and cheezy as I was expecting, so I wasn't disappointed.

I thought that one model in the bikini was going to spend the entire film running through the jungle, but then she and the fat guy got killed. I want to know how a person can fall off a boat in a big pond, yet end up several dozen yards away when surfacing. And why was the critter killing so many people? It didn't even eat most of them.

I was up with Garrett late last night and put this on the DVR for when I have time. That will probably be tonight. I am getting a lot of movie viewing done due to this boy. Don't you love it when the TV teaser shows the monster?

It was a bit odd the way they kept killing off all the characters. They go through the bother of introducing these people and giving them a wee bit of background, you think they'll be around for a while, then - blamo - they get killed. Liked the babe in the thong running through the woods, wish she wouldn't have gotten killed off when she did. I have to admit I actually missed the demise of dino, er supercrock, I was browsing through a golf club catalog and when I looked up they were already into the epilogue.

The answer to that question is probably to be found in the Movie Cliches thread. Its kills people because it is a WILD ANIMAL and has no other purpose in life except to attack and eat humans. Witness the tarantulas ganging up on Shatner and stinging him to death that time.

I watched this one from start to finish, didn't recognize Kelly McGillis till about half way through the movie, she's sure changed, but that happens when you get older. What I can't understand about this network is that they can put out series like Battlestar Galatica or Eureka but the movies they make are generally mediocre. Maybe they spend most of the money on the series and can't afford to do a better job on the movies. I've been watching their movies for some time now and the good ones are few and far between. The movies I've enjoyed would be Dog Soldiers, Franken Fish, Manthing, and Kaw (could have used more birds though), most of the time the films are not really bad enough to be funny, they're just not good. However I'll continue to watch on Saturday nights, the survival tips are usually funny, and after all these years I'm addicted to cheesy movies, I even like SSSSSSSSSSS.

The last Sci Fi channel original movie that I was subjecte to was Raptor Island.

Even with me being a huge bad/B movie fan, I just can't enjoy the Sci Fi channel movies as they're just plain bad and not enjoyable in the least.

Ditto. I rarely get through more than 10 or 15 minutes of one. Supergator was an anomaly. I did nearly laugh my ass off when I saw the commercials for their new one, "Atomic Twister."

I forced myself to watch this after DVRing it, just to participate in the thread. Now that I have done so, I cannot find much to say that was not already said. Some spoilers follow.

Normally, a SciFi channel film like this is something that I would wait for on DVD - just in case the uncut version was not as bad. I don't think that they could help this one very much. The monster attacks are confusing splices of gator mouth, stage blood on somebody's thigh, and the person screaming.

I'm also trying to figure out why an M16 was a better weapon than a high-power rifle. The gator hunter's one rifle must have been something like a Winchester .300, which has a lot more penetration than a 5.56 or a shotgun. Not that it matter, we all know that monsters are never killed by bullets.

I was surprised that a couple people got et. The one pretty blonde graduate student was someone I thought would make it. Especially after she stayed under water for about 5 minutes, just to make everyone worry that the gator had eaten her.

Kind of surprising that the silicon on that one girl, the model who spent half the film running through the jungle in her bikini, did not kill the gator...

About McGillis: Wow, egad, she has always looked older than she actually was and that starts being a liability later in life.

With even worse CGI effects, naturally.

About the only thing I remember about it is several tornadoes lining up to strike one of those badly-built-nuclear-reactors-because-of-corrupt/greedy-guvmint-officials and a kid riding around on a bicycle a lot.

Minotaur was laughably bad which is pretty sad as in the hands of a real filmmaker with a real budget and good effects plus real actors it could have been pretty cool. Plus, Candyman had some man boobs going on in that one which was pretty disturbing.

I guess he's nearing 50 now so maybe that can't be helped.

There was some Sci Fi channel movie that I saw one time that had evil monkeys in it and Ron Pearlman was somehow involved with these evil monkeys and there was a scene of him crying that really made ma laugh. Can't think of the title though.
