BRAIN DAMAGE films have been a pet vice of mine since I discovered the label a few years ago.  Cheap production, cheesy plots, incredibly fake special effects, and the occasional bit of gratuitous nudity made these low budget, direct-to-video pieces of shlock a lot of fun.  Here lately, the ones I have rented have been even worse quality than usual.  Then I checked out ROSE OF DEATH.

OK, this movie has a decently written plot, fairly good acting, realistic gore, no nudity whatsoever, and only mild comic relief (a cop who loses his lunch at each grisly murder scene).  Don't get me wrong, it's not Wes Craven quality material, but it is almost as if someone is trying to make that kind of movie.  It is a straightforward revenge/payback kind of film, with some pretty disturbing scenes in it.  In short, an attempt at mainstream horror.

Come on, BRAIN DAMAGE guys, it's like I don't even know you anymore!

Torgo

This is even worse than if Troma tried to at some point seek artistic merit/credibility.
