Underground Desert Tunnels

This description is going to be pretty bad since i was small at the time but i will try to be specific. I think this movie came out in the 80s. I remember it having a nerdy teenage girl on the beach being real shy and not confident. And she had a crush on a popular guy who didn't really notice her much. The next part i remember shes underground in some tunnels wearing i think a pancho and a towel wrapped on her head (like arabian ppl wear them). A man is there protecting her from guys with guns (i think there dressed in black suits)trying to lead her out of the tunnels. In the end she gets away but i think the hero gets hurt. Then shes at the beach again only shes sexy, confident and the popular guy sees her but she isn't interested in him anymore and she turns around and the hero appears on the beach. It goes from a reagular nerdy highschool girl having problems with boys to a underground desert tunnels, guns shooting, and middleeast looking gear (i think), out of no where.

There was a film made in South Africa during the 80's called "Journey" which is very similar to this ~ it starred Kathy Ireland if I remember correctly.

Trevor has the female star right, but not the title (maybe "Journey" was the shooting title?).   This sounds like "Alien from L.A."

It sounds a little bit like Alien from LA, but she found the entire city of Atlantis down in those tunnels.  She did transform from nerd girl to sexy chick at the end though.

I can remember people who acted in that film getting mighty upset when it wasn't released locally.  We don't even have a copy of it here at the archives, which should tell you something.

This is definitely ALIEN FROM L.A....I've seen it enough time to know as I wrote that review.  JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH from 1989 is a sequel of sorts (it initially started out as a different project but later turned into a kind of sequel).
