These films were listed in my latest Wizard magazine along with nearly 200 other films but these in paticular caught my eye.....

Fantastic Voyage

Tron

The Day The Earth Stood Still

Astroboy

Castlevania

Halo

Friday The 13th (a remake)

Speed Racer

Star Trek(remake of Kirk/Spock version with new actors as Kirk etc.)

and that's just a few of them..............

My opinion of the success they each will have?

Fantastic Voyage--it will fail

Tron---it will fail

The Day The Earth Stood Still---it will fail

Astroboy--might do good--likely somewhere in between.

Castlevania--likely fail

Halo--likely do fairly well.

Friday The 13th (a remake/sequel) having been referred to as both a sequel and a remake--this will likely fail.

Speed Racer--likely do really good.

Star Trek(remake of Kirk/Spock version with new actors as Kirk etc.)--cannot see this having any chance in hell. Be shocked if it does. I mean understandably,  Trekkies-especially classic Trekkies will probably have a hard time accepting
new actors in the roles that classic actors more or less created. It would be like Re-doing Star Wars with Clay Aiken as Luke!

Now if they would only do a remake of the Star Wars Holiday Special

Most will probably fail.  Castlevania I see possibly having some success.  I mean, I've never expected a Resident Evil movie, and yet I think part 3 just came out.

As for Friday the 13th, possible success.  Not a huge blockbuster, but depending upon cast and script, it should make money.  I mean, the franchise as a whole has a fanbase, seeing as it's been around 27 years and spawned like, 11 flicks.  The Texas Chainsaw 're-imagining' did well, pulling in 80 million.  I don't see Friday doing that much, but Freddy vs. Jason did, so eh.

While I wouldn't call myself a huge star wars fan, that still makes me shiver!

Anyways I think the star trek movie could have some success, I'll give em this its actually kinda orginial(at least for hollywood).

I think Friday the 13th will do well at the box office, regardless of if it's good or not.  Name recognition and curiosity you know.

Star Trek - I can't imagine new people playing Kirk and Spock.  That's one of those things that anyone with a brain would just leave the hell alone, but of course Hollywood will barge right in.  I imagine it will do well financially, a lot of people never saw the original Kirk and Spock.  Hell, the guy who cuts my hair didn't know The Poseidon Adventure was a remake.

Castlevania might be interesting.  It's a horror/survival video game set in a castle.  I like horror/survivor stuff in a castle.

Tron?  Oh geez.  The whole appeal is the cheesiness.  I suppose there's a chance in hell they might do something interesting with it.

Fantastic Voyage...I've just got a feeling that the only reason for this movie to exist is to make another remake.  I predict loads of crappy CGI and it will probably be made by people who never saw / don't give a damn about the original.

they are also working on a Land Of The Lost movie. I can list all the movies in the mag but it might take a few days---that is if anyone cares..........

Castlevania has me worried as in classic Hollywood fashion with video game based movies, they're going to serious screw stuff up. I'm especially worried cause Paul Anderson is attached to the project. Not as a director, but producer I think.

Friday the 13th remake/reimaging... I don't like the idea really. I love the old F13 movies, but the idea of them trying to make an all new beginning movie and stuff.... Look at the Halloween remake for example. That was not needed big time to me and was trying WAY too hard to make us understand what made Micheal the way he was. Heck, next thing you know they'll try and remake Nightmare on Elm Street without Rober Englund as Freddy. >_<;;;

Halo I'm interested in after seeing the Halo 3 commercials showing live actors as Marines and a real Warthog. Might be good. Depends though on how faithful it is to the material.

Tron was cool back in the day when computers and gaming was still new. A new one obviously would get WAY too insane with the special effects I think. Should just leave it alone, or maybe make a sequel like I think they did for it in comics...or was it video games? Tron 2.0

A live action Astro Boy and Speed Racer... Live action based on Japanese animation never really seems good, at least from the ones that I've seen. Plus Hollywood tried to make live-action anime movies of some shows that thankfully did not get out of development hell before. However, some did get made...and became direct to video.

Star Trek... This one is up in the air right now for me. When I see a full trailer and all the actors done up as their respective characters, then I'll pass judgement. SO far we've only seen some spy shots of the actors, sadly nothing really to give us a full idea of things though. For example, are they going to wear the uniforms from the first episode of ST: TOS with Kirk and company, or the uniforms from the episodes there after? (red, gold, blue)

Well I've heard they are remaking "Back To School" with Cedric The Entertainer in Dangerfield's role--first he remade "The Honeymooners" and now he's working on "Back To School" seems all he's doing currently is remaking classic white  comedies--and badly too-does he hate white people or something? Why not showcase his humor in something original instead of simply remaking any and all originally white TV programs/movies. He could be doing anything he wants and instead he seems to be making bad remakes that he knows have about as much chance being successful as an all white remake of Roots would.

I also hear a "Clash Of The Titans" remake is under way........

And about Astroboy......

The guy making that paticular movie says he ain't gonna go the same route that Speed Racer is going(live action) he promises to stay with the original kind of Animie and that sort of thing.

Although folks have promised things before and not ended up keeping their promises.

The Star Trek "reimagining" I have a hard time imagining doing very well--it will make tons of money of course but being a reimagining of the original? I just don't see it doing as successful as they think it will be---look at the Enterprise series. It's a reimagining and how well did it do? it sucked!

Another movie in the works that I just remembered...........The Hardy Men-supposed to be the Hardy Boys but years later as adults who are bitter towards each other and only come together to solve one last murder---if this doesn't sound bad enough then the cast for Frank and Joe oughta help........Tom Cruise and Ben Stiller. Now I never liked Cruise's acting and Stiller's always depended on the movie he was doing--but I can't see either man as Frank or Joe.

Oh yes...........

And this one is not actually IN the works---but this was a remake that WAS in the works but somehow got shelved without a single warning.......

Santa Clause Versus The Martians.

yes. They were actually planning a remake of that movie-though how, when, and why it was shelved was never explained--just one year there was a huge claim it was gonna get remade and all of a sudden it was never heard from again.

I heard about that too.

Maybe it's just me, but I'd actually like to see a remake of that.

That right there pretty much sums up why I hate remakes.

Exactly. I mean sure it isn't actually a remake---more of an adaption and a Hardy Boys movie would be cool to see--but making a flick where they are bitter old men who hate each other? No thanks.

And while Ben Stiller can be a riot I don't see him convincing as Frank or Joe Hardy--and Tom Cruise just sucks waste water plain and simple.

Besides one of them would have to dye his hair blonde to play Joe---and I don't think either one of them will look likethey have "real" blonde hair.

I really think everyone hear is way too negative.

Tron: The original is hardly a classic but its a cool idea for a movie and great things could be done with today's effects. The same applies to "Fantastic Voyage." Its a fun movie but its ultimately just an effects film and we could do so much more with that same story with today's technology. Both films have the potential to be big hits.

I'm admittedly not excited for the "The Day the Earth Stood Still." One thing, its being fast-tracked, which is rarely good. Apperantly its being redesigned as a summer blockerbuster too, which, considering the original has always struck me as very slow and character oriented, seems counter-productive. Angelina "Most Overrated Actress in Hollywood" is staring too. Still, it has a pretty decent chance of being a hit.

"Astroboy" is a CGI film being made by the Japanese. This probably speaks pretty well for the final product. I doubt it would get a wide US release though.

"Castlevania" and "Halo" are both video game movies which are usually pretty lousy simply because it is far more difficult then most Hollywood screenwriters seem to think to translate the constantly up-hill pacing of a video game into the up-and-down pacing of a movie. Plus, you know, games don't really need things like plots or decent characterization to be entertaining but movies kinda', you know, do. "Halo," last I check, collaspe after some major studeos backed out, leaving a ridiculously expensive project without a budget. Which is a shame because Gullmerio del Toro was going to direct and Peter Jackson was producing, so that one actually had a pretty decent chance to be good. "Castlevania" is currently stulled because of the writer's stirke but Paul Thomas Anderson was attached to write/direct which was pretty much a death stamp on its quality in my book.

The "Friday the 13th" remake? Its being done by Michael Bay's Platenum Dunes company, same people who previously remade "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" and "The Hitcher." I pretty much hate everything this company stands for since their mission statement seems to be, lets take classic horror films, keep the story similar enough so that its recognizable, but suck out all the soul and heart and replace it with an obnoxious, hollow, MTV slickness. I do have some minor hope for this one though. The "Freddy vs. Jason" guys are scripting and I liked that one a lot. The story is meant to explore Jason as a character, which has potential for greatness, and the writers seem to understand him too. Marcus Nispel is directing. He did the TCM redux in addition to that "Pathfinder" movie nobody saw. He's not a good director but is at least better then the guy who did "TCM: The Beginning" and "Darkness Falls" who was previously attached. For those who like to complain about remakes, Platenum Dunes also has new verisons of "The Birds" and "Near Dark" in the works as well.

Have you seen the "Speed Racer" trailer? It looks FREAKIN' INSANE! It's done by the Wachowski brothers who, for those unaware, directed the "Matrix" series previously. (And "Bound," least we forget.) I think its pretty well document that the brothers are lunatics and they seem to have brought all their crazy to this game. Now, will it good? I don't know. But I'm pretty certain its gonna' be entertaining. I think it'll be a hard sell for the public though.

As for "Star Trek?" I'm optamistic. J.J. Abrams is directing and writing. I've never been impressed with the guy but I know some people have enjoyed his previous work. The story is interesting, seeing as how its a canonic reboot. Nimoy is coming back as Old Spock who goes back in time to protect Young Kirk and Spock from pesky time traveling Romanlians. (The leady baddy, Nero, is being played by Eric Bana.) The cast is a fascinating mix of good and bad. I'd suggest you look up the IMDb list because I don't feel like listing anything but the highlights: Simon "Shaun of the Dead/Hot Fuzz" Pegg as Scotty, Zachary Quinto, better known as Sylar on "Heroes," is young Spock, and Wynona Ryder plays Spock's mother.

Honestly, its the halfbaked blockerbusters of '09 they're cooking up due to the Writer's Strike that sound really bad. Will Ferrial in a big budget big screen comedy verison of "Land of the Lost." Eddie Murphey in a big bugdet big screen take on "Fantasy Island" in which he will play multiple roles. The "Justice League" movie is a slippery slope for sure if you've been following it. Marky Mark in the "Max Payne" movie? Yeah, next year actually sounds damn good in comparions to those.

The Tron video game was actually pretty good, and I wouldn't mind seeing an update of that 80s nonsense.  That and the suits were pretty flash.

Fantastic Voyage: Well I always get flashes of 'Innerspace' when I think of this sort of thing.  This is neither good nor bad really.  I don't know who's attached but it could go well.

The Day The Earth Stood Still: I'm scared of this one, and also scared of my curiosity.  I always wondered what a Citizen Kane remake would be like.  This gives me the same shivers, yet I don't actually mind the idea.

Astroboy: Anything Japanese is welcome.  Who cares if it's not popular [though I suspect it probably will be]

Castlevania: Isn't this an Anderson epic or is it Boll's work.  Either way I'm scared.

Halo: Big budget film that once 'on track' will probably be a big budget bonanza.  There's not alot they can do wrong really.

Friday The 13th (a remake): No care for this at all, but will probably be ok.

Speed Racer:  Looks interesting but haven't seen enough to really understand what the hell is going on with this one.

Star Trek(remake of Kirk/Spock version with new actors as Kirk etc.) The casting of Sylar was a piece of genius for Spock.  This gives me hope.
