I just keep thinking Brain Damage films has ONE MORE decent B-grade horror movie in them.  I mean, some of their early stuff, like DEATH FACTORY, was quite watchable.  But ever since the awfulness of PONY TROUBLE and KILL THEM AND EAT THEM, I have had a hard time working up the nerve to rent anything they make.  But when I saw MRS. AMWORTH on the shelf, I decided to give it a go.  I am a sucker (pun intentional) for vampire movies and always have been.  And the result was . . . well, watchable, at least.

Yes, it's low budget.  And yes, Mrs. Amworth is  not as attractive as Hammer Films have convinced us all that female vampires should be.  But, on the other hand, she isn't butt-ugly, either.  This movie actually started on a fairly promising note, had some decent dialog and acting, and remained watchable up until the confusing end.  It wasn't as good as some of the stuff Brain Damage used to put out, but it's far better than some of their more recent drivel.  All in all, I found myself liking it more than I hated it.  At least, I won't be QUITE as hesitant the next time I pick up one of their titles.

Quick plot synopsis:  Mrs. A has recently moved in next to a photographer and his girlfriend Sara.  In short order, a young girl, her boyfriend, and then the boy's parents fall victim to her fatal charms.  Town doctor knows what she is, investigativer reporter for the local tiny-town paper is brought in on it (he also has the hots for Sara).  But then as they close in on the evil Mrs. A, she runs away and the scene shifts to Sara, having a nightmare about Mrs. A's funeral, then fading to the standard was it or wasn't it a dream conclusion.  It's a little slow at first, but the movie works in places.

Anyone else seen it?

Nope, but I might have to check it out if the local mom and pop shop I go to has it. They are one about the only place I can find Brain Damamge films for rent around here. I've sen one or two, can't remember titles. I keep meaning to ask if there are any good ones, or at least clever bad ones. I'll have to look up which I've seen and get back.
blah blah stuff blah blah obscure pop culture reference blah blah clever turn of phrase blah blah bad pun blah blah bad link blah blah zzzz.....

If this is the 1975 short (29 min) starring Glynis Johns (MARY POPPINS) as Mrs. Amworth, yeah I've seen it.  It was entertaining and well enough made, but not particularly memorable.  Worth a viewing if you can find it though.
