Guy kills himself by stuffing his jacket with big rocks and walking into a lake

I remember seeing this as a kid, I think it was a horror movie and this scene was the very first thing in the movie. I think I remember falling asleep after that part and never saw the rest of the movie, this must've back in the early 90s when I was really young, I think it was something my parents rented and I fell asleep on the couch while they were watching it one night.

I asked around and someone told me it's The Sender (1982) can anyone whos seen it verify this?

I can confirm that it is "The Sender" as I remember seeing it when it came out in the 1980's.

Thanks for the responce. I bought it on ebay this week and now that I've watched it, it is indeed the movie I was thinking of. It was pretty good actually, and it's coming out on DVD soon I just found out.

I think the director Roger Christian was one of the art directors on "Star Wars IV" if I'm not mistaken.
