You forget about the neck snapping of the two women in the car; which is also laughable in its representation.
No, I thought the sequence in the car was horrific, the one dumb broad is attempting to mollify Henry, and her partner suddenly realizes what is happening... they are soon discarded, and Otis has a brief moment where he is stunned by Henry's autonomatic disposal of human beings.

The filmmakers should have either chosen to document the reality of the story from which they took the characters, or they should have created characters for their work of fiction.  Taking the names and other elements (though few) from the real life trio, but wrapping it in a complete work of fiction having nothing to do with that trio is exploitive. The story that is represented is not a very effective portrait of a serial killer; being that 'portrait' is not only a part of the title, but is also what they promise to deliver, I would expect that, and they failed.
IMO :tongueout:
It's low budget which is one of its charms.  The point of this film is not about documentation of murder, but about a lifestyle of murder.  If this film had been exploitive, each of the many murders "documented" would have been enacted.  I think the filmmakers created a stunningly effective drama about horror in the American family and along our roadways.  I'm surprised at you Menard, bein' such a sensitive lad that you are...
