Actually, I'm glad to see him back, inspite of his foibles this place isn't the same without him, and Poogie really does think he's the greatest thing since sliced bread. I sort of like the guy myself, but then I like everybody.

KENNY LOGGINS???     So typically un-"Menard" like.     I too have followed yer foibles as DENNIS put it, and glad to hear things are on the upswing.     I'd gib you mer karma.    
Sequeing to other threads and following your lead, not sure about that "merchandising" as Cheeseflix had kind-of slapped while providing an interesting and useful reference site (I, too, checked it out).  My in-law who has been out of work, had tried that briefly but though a virtual work-horse had to turn it down due to "issues".

Cheezy did provide a good resource, though merchandising does have a bad habit of the best way to get in is from the inside. If someone does not have current merchandising experience, it is difficult to even get some companies to look at you.

Presently I work for four different merchandising companies, varying in degrees of flexibility, but none of them require me to be there at a specific time. Unfortunately, this week is going to be heavy and the following week is going to be psychotic with over 90 hours on schedule. I don't mind the hours but I don't care for the travel with a car that has messed up rotors and a vibration in the front end.

My problem is that I won't turn my back on someone when they need help; unfortunately, I don't get the same treatment back, and many of us are in that same boat.

My resignation is going in to the bread company shortly. As gas is going through the roof and the number of trips required to merchandise the bread versus the pay, I am working for less and less each week. I can make up my normal schedule with the bread company with half the hours from another company due to less travel. Of course, the bread company is not going to like that being that I am the only merchandiser who can run every store and who has the flexibility to do it.

What I mainly like about merchandising, though, is the flexibility of schedule and the ability to work as many hours as I can. One job providing 40 hours a week is not going to give me either of those.

That is were you negotiate, many companies do not like to negotiate but often well and with the current fuel prices they are going to have to pay more (even if only mileage) if they want to retain people. Before you quite give them a chance to up the offer, and if it's no good then do the "see you later bye" You might also want to check out.

It's not a matter of wanting to negotiate, it's a matter of not wanting to work 7 days a week anymore or to have excessive work dumped on me when someone else can jump districts who has a company vehicle and fleet card, neither of which I have.

This district is growing with the bread company; two more stores and they'll have to split the district. I would be in-line for a management position should that happen, and I don't want it.

I work for three other companies and can replace the hours I get from the bread company, have less travel (and gas costs), and still make the same money, if not more; and, not have to work 7 days a week.
