Just saw this. It was better then I was expecting.
I'm a fan of the first one. It was one of the only movies that ever scared me.  I think the reason it scared me so, was because it felt real. The second one lost this. It really just felt like one of those crappy teen slaser flicks I hate so much. But a little better. 2 out 5 slimes.

When The Blair Witch Project first came out, I saw it three times the first week and obviously loved it. I bought the book that was released in the wake of the film, I even visited the website daily for "new information about this case." But when I saw TBWP again last year, I could barely sit through it. I guess after seeing it that much it lost some punch.

As for the second BW movie, I'd rather hand-wash a dozen silk blouses in frigid water while a cat bites my pant legs than sit through that twice.

But while I'm thinking it, another flick from this genre, Last Broadcast, is definitely worth seeing if you liked the Blair Witch at all. In fact LB pre-dated it and many say it's a better movie. It's different and it's good but I don't know if I'd say it's better. But a heads up if you ever see it anywhere. Worth watching. Tough to find.

The movie had me up until the last ten minutes and it tanked IMHO.

I agree.  I can't say anything about the last 10 minutes or so with possibly wrecking the film, but I was so utterly irked that I tracked down one of the filmmakers and asked him what the deal was with the last part of the film, and he tried to hand me some artistic nonsense.  As a result the smoke blowing up my bung hole, I've made it my mission to never watch anything these jokers make again.  To the best of my knowledge, I haven't accidentally broken that promise to myself.

Really? I didn't think the ending of Last Broadcast was all that bad. Not what I expected, but not all that bad. Or maybe I'm just remembering it as better in retrospect than it was. I think I saw it in 2000.

I liked the first BLAIR WITCH PROJECT - it scared the bejabbers out of me when I saw it.  Never watched it a second time; I figured the magic would be gone, you know?  But the second movie was painfully bad.

As for THE LAST BROADCAST, I have never watched it.  They show it on IFC occasionally, which by itself is enough to prejudice me against it.  :twirl:

My thing is the film set up a believability factor for the first hour, twenty or so.  In other words, if you had just turned in you could have sworn it was a real documentary.  It was wonderfully set up and executed but then the ending seemed to be a huge standard "horror for dummies" tap out.  Granted I'm not sure how I would have ended it either but it was of those ending that could have been so much more IMHO.

I thought Blair Witch 2 was pretty good.  Sort of a standard B horror movie, but decent enough, and then that twist ending which I thought was really quite creative and had a good impact to it.

The original Blair Witch was pretty good too, but I don't think I'd ever watch it a second time.  The characters were really getting on my nerves on the first viewing, by the second I wouldn't be able to stand it.

I actually didn't comment on the theme of the thread.  I personally hated the first BWP and I still don't get it's appeal.  I can appreciate it taking a bold move in film making but the shaky camera angles and pretty much nothing happening for awhile was hard to intake.  I actually felt it's sequel was a bit better but kind of replicated what horror was doing all over the place at that time.  I saw both in the theater and thinking of BW2 makes me laugh.  A woman behind me let out the loudest scream I've ever heard in a theater when one of the characters opened the door and the ghost children were there.   :bouncegiggle:

I thought the second one was terrible and was no better than any random DTV horror film on the shelf at Blockbuster.  The first dragged in the beginning, but once it got going it was pretty good.  I can understand how some people wouldn't enjoy it, as it is a different way of experiencing a film like that.  Part of why I haven't watched Cloverfield yet is I believe I will hate how it is presented.

I also thought I would hate Cloverfield but really had a lot of fun watching it. It doesn't hold up as well to repeated viewings but it worked for what it was trying to do. I felt that the recent Brazillian horror film [REC]took Cloverfield's approach and perfected it.

I hated both Blair Witch films but not because of how the 1st one was shot. I just thought it was a terrible excuse for a "film".  The sequel was only worth watching due to a really hot chick that got naked a few times in it.

I liked Blair Witch. Liked Blair Witch 2. Love [REC]. Like Diary Of The Dead. Hate Cloverfield. Love Cannibal Holocaust. Love Man Bites Dog. Like the August Underground movies. Love The Other American Dream. Love Behind The Mask: The Rise Of Leslie Vernon.

Have not seen The Last Broadcast (but I want to), The Poughkeepsie Tapes (don't want to), Alone With Her (want to), Home Movie (REALLY want to), or The Zombie Diaries (not really interested, but I'd take the time to watch if it were on).

There, that covers all the "first person P.O.V./found footage" horror movies I can think of.

BWP was like a true B-movie to me. The substance of the film was nothing either way, but the 'crap' factor of it I found laughable. I spent much of the film laughing and thinking "Just what effect were they TRYING for, what emotion were they trying to evoke?"

Blair Witch Project was nothing but a con.  Just some jerks running around with camcorders pointing off camera and saying "WHAT'S THAT?" and they called it a movie.  I wanted to find the a***oles responsible for it, beat them up, and take my ticket money back.

At least Blair Witch 2 is an actual movie.  I like it pretty well.
