I remember this movie from the late 80's early 90's that I loved.

The plot was about a city of mutant or monster people who lived in caves. Constantly worried that the "normal" people in a nearby town would hunt them down and kill them if discovered. Lead actor was a mutant but not obvious and could go between the cave city and the town. I was fascinated by the mutant children. In the end the cave city left the cave and I can't remember why but I remember I was very upset that they would not be safe. Sorry I can't remember much more than that. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Mofo Rising

Sounds an awful lot like Nightbreed to me. A Clive Barker film that also features David Cronenberg in an acting role.
Every dead body that is not exterminated becomes one of them. It gets up and kills. The people it kills, get up and kill.

Puzzled

It sounds like it could also possibly be "Underworld" AKA "Transmutations", which was another Clive Barker based movie.

Though I agree it sounds like "Nightbreed" as well.
