Animated 80's Feature Film

This is the first time I used this but I have no choice but to seek help. The Animated feature I think was made late 80's and as far as I can remember set on another planet where people are forced to work in mines. The other thing I can remember is that the people that held them captive had whips that were kind of like light sabers out of starwars, I think they were red and I think that a young man has to try and rescue family members from the mines. Please help I wanted to know
the name of this film for years..

This almost certainly has to be "Starchaser:  The Legend of Orin" (1985).  It's a cherished childhood memory of many.

Thanks for that. I looked it up over the internet and I am now certain that it is starchaser. I cant believe that I got an answer so quick thanks again. Now all I got to do is find it, any Ideas?

If you are in the United States or Canada, it is available on Region 1 DVD.  I think that you are in Europe based on your IP address.  Amazon.co.uk has the Region 1 import DVD available, but I don't see any mention of a DVD release over there.
