70/80's movie with talking vegetables?

I think it could have been a short movie. Perhaps English. Was shown on television a few times around early 80's.
The plot: A crazy scientist is constructing a machine (it looks freaky) that converts language talked by vegetables, grass and trees to sounds that humans can hear. I think the man was killed by a tree at the end...
Anyone knows the title of it?
