Got a broke DVD player... what can I do?

At my hotel, we have several DVD players we let the guests use when they rent movies (or just want one for whatever reason).  Anyway, one of them broke and they were just going to throw it away, but I asked if I could have it.  Seen all these neat videos with people using parts of various electronics to do crazy stuff and that got me thinking...

Is there's anything one can do with the parts of a DVD player?   I've been doing a bit of research, but I thought some of you guys who fool around with electronics might suggest something.  (Other than the obvious stuff like put it in a microwave, throw it out the window, etc.)
