I've been trying to remember the name of this film for years.  I haven't seen it since I was a kid when I used to rent it all the time.  I actually remember quite a bit about it but haven't had any luck on google.

It starts off with a scientist who is working for the government I believe.  He was building a computer missile defense system I believe.  Something goes wrong with it during a test and he is fired.  I think his wife and him start having problems so he moves into their cabin.  He brings the computer with him and hooks it up in the basement.  He uses the computer to be a house computer and I think it controls the lights and temperature etc.  Then at one point it hooks itself up to the internet and orders itself some dangling "arms" and some of them have knife attachments.

I remember the computer had cameras throughout the house and these dangling arms on tracks.  At one point the guys daughter stays there.  Then towards the end the computer goes crazy and tries to kill all of them.

Thanks for the help guys.

Shadow

The first movie that springs to mind is Demon Seed:

However, I think Dream House may be closer to your description:

The FDA has been looking for a generic name for Viagra. After careful consideration by a team of government experts, it recently announced that it has settled on the generic name of Mycoxafloppin. Also considered were Mycoxafailin, Mydixadrupin, Mydixarizin, Dixafix, and of course, Ibepokin.

Sounds like DREAMHOUSE-

wow, guys, thanks for the help.  It's amazing to me how many movies have been made with similar story lines.  I had to read over the first two suggestions several times to convince myself neither of them were it.

I think we have a winner though with homewrecker!!  There isn't much info about the movie itself on imdb but I instantly recognized the box.  I'm gonna say that this is the movie.  I appreciate the help because I'm sure you guys know how annoying it is to have a movie from your past stuck in your head and not be sure what it is.

Now the trick is to try and find it so I can watch it.
