late 70's early 80's Aussie car flick

trying to remember a movie I watched as a kid. All I remember was a car chase, road race?  A guy and a chick in a late 70's firebird had to get across a broken bridge(or something). A helicoptor showed up, and attached a chain to the firebird(the car had a t-top roof) and carried it over.
