I've learned that in certain circles this is considered one of the worst animes ever. It's a single episode OVA where in the future on a colonized planet there is a rebellion and the government created psycho super-soldiers to help. Only problem is they were a tad too crazy and MD (Most Dangerous) Geist was put on a satellite until it crashes and re-enters the fray.

In the mid 90s a U.S. company pushed the OVA which got a director's cut where the animation was cleaned up, and five minutes were added to set the mood.

It's got the all ready mention super soldier.
Violence.
Mechas.
Violence.
Post-Apocalyptic World with biker gangs.
Violence.
Robots.
Violence.
And of course weird armor and more violence.

I honestly don't see what's so horrible about it. Yeah it's violent, yeah it's shallow, yeah it's just 50 minutes of a super soldier killing stuff and being nihilistic. But it's not much shallow than a lot of the 80's action movies that popped up where guys like John Matrix killed off whole armors. Okay it's a big grimmer I give it that. "MD Geist" has a lot of cool visuals and the tech and armors are interesting designs. And the music is a nice change of pace. It took me a while to realize it's quite a bit more jazzy, where a lot of animes have rock in roll or J-pop stuff.

I'd say my favorite part is the final battle where Geist battles a robot that keeps changing shape. First it's a huge armored warrior with an axe and shield. Then the white armor melts off to reveal a small red shape, where it's split down the front and it opens and closes as though breathing. The final is it's skeleton and it launches it's limbs and reforms. Lot of kick ass visuals that stuck with me after the show ended.

It actually was popular enough in the U.S. that a sequel or two were made where even those that decried the original found them better.

So I'm sure you could google the title if you're interested and find something.
Now it's time to sing the nation anthem IN AMERICA!!!

It's been a loooooong time since I've seen it, but the main thing I remember was thinking the opening was cool, and then being extremely bored until the climax, and then actually liking the ending (not the final battle stuff, just what Geist did in the end).

It might be worth noting I saw this when I was like 11 or 12 years old, and haven't seen it since.  There's also a sequel, which I haven't seen.

As of the moment though, it's one of only 7 movies I've rated on the IMDB a 1 out of 10.  If I ever see it again, I could see that changing.  I feel like if I rated it now, the ending alone would put it to at least a 2.
