Very cool!  I loved watching those as a kid, I'll definitely check them out online.  Some of the episodes were extremely creative, and the whole thing had a really odd atmosphere about it.

Best written Cartoon series I've ever seen.   Chekov didn't appear in the show, but he wrote an episode called The Ultimate Vulcan

If you listen real close, you will notice that most of the guest characters are voiced by Jimmy Doohan and Majel Barrett-Rodenberry.

And you thought Trek isn't cool.

I always liked the style of Filmation cartoons from the 70s. They had a distinctive feel to them.

Really? I thought the animation was hideous!
Don't get me wrong-the series was quite well written-compared to other Saterday morning drek-and enjoyable. But the limited, jerky animation was dreadful.
Not as bad as the 60's CAPT.AMERICA,HULK,or SPIDERMAN-of course.

It's probably hard for the kiddies growing up in a Trek saturated society to imagine, but back when this debuted it was very exciting for us tykes to have new Star Trek episodes to supplement the endlessly repeated original series.

Chekov was missed - but it was fun having some new aliens on board. The cat lady who spoke like Henrietta p***ycat from Mr. Rodgers' Neighborhood was a hoot.

The main theme which was "not quite the original but sorta reminds you of the original one" is much like what animated series like The Simpsons and Family Guy do these days as musical jokes.
If you're an Andy Milligan fan there's no hope for you.

Filmation animation was crude, but there was still something a little different about the way the characters moved. And it was also the drawing style and the music that made Filmation cartoons stand out for me. It might not even be that they were particularly good. They were just different from everything else. And I agree, they were well written.

I love that old Hulk cartoon from the 60s. The theme is hilariously stupid, although rhyming "gamma rays" with "unglamorous" was kind of gutsy in its idiocy.

Agreed.
Stuff like The Flintstones and The Snorks still looks pretty good and holds up well.

But filmation just looks so poor for me.

I've never really been a Star Trek fan (haven't really watched the shows or the movies), but I watched this one religiously because it was on Nickelodeon.  When I was a kid, it did NOT matter what was on - if it was on Nickelodeon, I watched it.  Thanks for the link!
