all I remember is it was extremely violent and one scene went like this:

the 'bad guy' soldiers are walking through jungle and one of them dies by getting a sharpened log through the neck, which is a booby trap that got set off by an ant or some small insect walking across the tripwire...

?

Rayo Casablanca

I'm pretty sure I've seen this and it's an Italian RAMBO rip-off. Sadly, there are many, many of them. I'll see what I can recall...

I'm thinking this isn't it, but go to the 3:40 mark.

It's in the part that I posted. At the 3:35 mark they hit the booby traps. One soldier goes down and then another gets the log to throat. The only thing that's different is that instead of an insect the soldier trips the wire.
