big headed monster that get coins stuck in there heads??

One of my earliest memories involves seeing a movie that my big brother was watching, early to mid 80s.

The only parts I can remember was an image of big headed alien monsters (I think were underground), the boy who was supposed to fight them would put coins in the back of their head and it would kill them.

Again, my memory is very foggy on this one, but I know there were big heads, possibly with one giant eye...and definitely coins...

can anyone help me, it is driving me crazy!

I'm betting that you are remembering the 1986 remake of "Invaders from Mars."  The aliens use copper to power their technology, so the humans use pennies to fire an alien weapon at one point.
