I just recently watched this despite the fact that I'd never seen the first one. What a bloody, crazy and fun film!
Poor Bruce Cambell got the crap beat out of him....when he put that chainsaw on his arm I about lost it. Now I guess I have to find the first one.

Yes,I'm fine....as long as I don't look too closely.

The first five minutes or so of Evil Dead 2 is actually a rehash of Evil Dead 1, so you have the condensed version.

Have you seen Army of Darkness? This and Evil Dead 2 go really good together.

To me army of darkness was a big departure from the first 2 ( from what I remember. Only time I saw it was when it came out). Much more comedy iirc.

Evil dead 2 is vastly superior to the original imo.

Evil Dead II: Dead By Dawn (1986) was the proper bridging of the gap between the horror that was the first movie and the comedy that was Army of Darkness (1992), in that it combined both horror and comedy so perfectly that no other movie in film history comes close to it.

The laughing deer head, for example...

...was equal parts funny as it was horrifying, and fit in to the scene so well, along with the laughing furniture, books, lamps, etc. which all led to Ash laughing insanely himself, which was meant to illustrate that he was beginning to lose his mind over all the evil stuff going on around him. I mean really, who wouldn't go crazy at stuff like this?

I honestly can't think of any other movie ever made that was able to pull off the horror-comedy bit as well as this movie did.

Second rule is, 'Be nice to mommy'
Third rule is, 'Don't talk to commies'
Fourth rule is, 'Eat kosher salamis'

This is easily one of the all-time greatest horror films ever made.. and really, it makes the least sense!  As great as Bruce Campbell is in this, it's really Sam Raimi's imagination and creativity that carry this movie.  The original was pretty good but definitely shows its low budget, and the third was way too jokey for my tastes.  This one has the right blend of horror and black humor.  I put this among the top 10 greatest horror films of all time.

I regard this as the best movie of the series. Perfect mix of horror and comedy. The eyeball scene was BOSS.
