First reviews in over a year on my site and in fact these are unpublished reviews from back in 2009 when I tried to prepare a full series of exorcist film reviews.

Both films are more than just clones of The Exorcist even though they followed close in its wake and in both cases, they drag along a little too much with build-up and not enough actual possession.

L'Anticristo has a good cast and some beautiful Italian sets, the highlight being a flashback to a Boshian vision of hell.

Exorcismo stars the Spanish horror legend Paul Naschy.

And back to Italy for L'ossessa (1974) - the title actually means 'The Obsessed', but the film was released in the UK as The Sexorcist and later released in the US as Eerie Horror Picture Show to cash in on Rocky Horror...

Unfortunately it can't quite live up to those titles, being a rather straight horror film and easy on the sleaze or sexy comedy. Passable.

L'Anticristo (1974)

The highlight for me was what happened to the German exchange student after he was lured away from his school group, while in the catacombs, by Carla Gravina who plays the heroine in the film. Commence head spinning.

Certainly, not as good as "The Exorcist," but of those films that were imitations of that film, this one is probably the best. Also starring Mel Ferrer and Arthur Kennedy.
