My first reaction was to go  :buggedout:, my second was to try to find Father Karras' number  until I opened it and found it was a synopsis of the South Africa hippie film Satan's Harvest.

From the synopsis of this film, I almost think South Africa was a bit late to the classic exploitation films like REEFER MADNESS, because this sounds very much like a "drugs are bad, m'kay" kind of movie. But then they did make DEATH OF A SNOWMAN in S.A. and it felt a lot like 70's blaxploitation.

You should write a book on the various "bad" movies made or filmed in South Africa. I'd definitely buy something like that.
I feel more like I do now than I did a while ago.

Thanks, Brother Java

Starting in the middle to early 80s, there was a plethora (is that a word? )  of terrible movies made here to take advantage of loopholes in the tax laws and to get what is known as a "subsidy" from the government, i.e. you make a film, show it to so many people and we will pay you out. This went bad very very quickly and films like Nukie, Space Mutiny, Laser Mission and others were the result of this.

You mean Nukie was made just to cash in on a government subsidy?! I little part of me just died. Nothing is sacred in this world. Its all a lie.

:teddyr: :teddyr:

That's not all.

1. The original cut of Nukie was trashed after a German company bought it and another director was brought in.
2. I knew the original director personally.

Also happened in Canada, and I've heard that's how Uwe Boew was able to keep making movies; German film subsidies.
Edit: Yeah, eveyone already knows this, but it's early & I can't process sarcasm yet.

Was the origional cut of Nukie better/worse than the final released cut?
