He maintained a good attitude towards the near infinite number of downfall parodies and gave what is likely the best rendition of the reality of Adolf hitler ever made.

And the vide was right,  portraying hitler realistically as a feeble,  sick old man instead of a demonic monster did take major balls.

He portrayed Martin Luther's Catholic mentor in the 2004 film LUTHER, which I'm watching with my world history class right now.
Polar opposite role, but he plays it very well.

Yes, a true actor can play a variety of roles. Peolle remember Malcolm McDowell as monsters like caligula and alex,  but rarely mention his near saintly portrayel of H. G.  Wells.
