My wife and I FINALLY took a cruise (after talking about it for about 20 years). We did a 9 night Western Caribbean cruise on Royal Caribbean's HARMONY OF THE SEAS. We made stops in the Bahamas, St. Thomas, St. Maarten, Puerto Rico, and Haiti. Lots of eating (and especially drinking) . . . I probably gained 15 pounds. But it was great. We hadn't been on a "go away" vacation for 10 years, so we really needed this one. Wish you could have all been there with me!

I also gained weight on the cruise I took. there was a massive buffet at every meal and no where to go to burn it off.

I brought dramamine just in case, but there was no need for it and no seasickness. Unless you are on the top (outside) decks or on your balcony, you don't even know you are at sea. It's like being in a big shopping mall with restaurants, bars, nightclubs, a casino, etc. I barely felt the ship moving except for a couple of times (and very briefly). HARMONY is one of the largest cruise ships in the world . . . I assume you would feel more motion on smaller ships.

Cabin was nice . . . slightly bigger than I expected. We had an exterior cabin with a balcony, which was great. We would go to sleep at night surrounded by water and in the morning we would sometimes wake up and see that we were near (or docked at) an island. Really cool way to wake up.

No presents. In fact, the only thing I bought for myself was a hat.
