I think had this movie not been released in the same general time as Saving Private Ryan, it would have gotten the publicity and high regard SPR did. Though these two films had little in common beyond being set amid war, it was like there was only room in the public consciousness for one massive movie about the experiences of WWII soldiers in combat, and as was the case fifty years before, Europe shoved aside Asia. SPR is a truly great film, a landmark achievement, but TTRL deserved more recognition for what it was.

The Burgomaster

I agree. I saw it in the theater and really liked it. I have the DVD and have watched it 3 times. And I like it better every time.

I was fully prepared to love this movie and was completely underwhelmed by it.
Maybe I should give it another watch.  But I remember just being more bored than anything with it.

I love this movie. I also own it, and have watched it many times.

I tried watching this one, but just wasn't enjoying it and abandoned it.
