I've only seen the first one and that was when I was a child. I have zero interest in the sequels.
Really I just want to talk about how Cars is an inherently garbage concept.
The Cars universe raises so many questions.

You see a movie like Zootopia and immediately assume that they reproduce through intercourse because they're animals.
How the f**k are cars born? Are they assembled in a factory? Who runs the factory? How was the first car created?

Human live for roughly ninety years.
How do cars die? You can just keep repairing them. Or is a Ship of Theseus situation where replacing too many parts means it's not them anymore?

Why are the windshields their eyes? Why aren't the headlights their eyes? If you ever look at a car and see a face you probably see the headlights
as the eyes. Or would it be weird for

On top of that most kids don't give a s**t about cars.

Toy Story - Kids love toys.
Zootopia - Kids love animals.
Cars - Uhh... Kids like Hotwheels?

I saw Cars for the first time earlier this year  :buggedout:

I really liked it -- I liked the story, the characters of each of the cars,  and the redemption arc that  Lightning McQueen got

I very much want to see Cars 2 and 3 but haven't
Kubrick, Nolan, Tarantino, Wan, Iñárritu, Scorsese, Chaplin, Abrams, Wes Anderson, Gilliam, Kurosawa, Villeneuve - the elite

I do enjoy watching animated movies but for some reason those Cars movies passed by me, though the first one came highly recommended by a friend who usually doesn't watch animated movies.

Oddly enough I was more interested in the spin-off Planes (2013) but I never got around watching that either.

Well, I can possibly answer part of the question on how the cars reproduce.

Or we might just be overthinking things.

I assume Cars is set in the same universe as Maximum Overdrive, just much later.

There are 3 Cars and it has a spin off series in two Planes movies.  Which means unless there's  a Toy Story 5, this is Pixar's most numerous and successful franchise.  And its a good guess to say it has to due with how easy it must be for the animators.  Rather than having to animated lots of appendages, and make walk cycles and such-they can focus on aspects like facial expressions.  That's probably why their eyes are the windshield instead of their headlights.  Bigger and more expressive.

As for the movies themselves,  they've only ever been ok.  IMO.   Athough, Cars 2 is one I would call bad.  It makes a classic sequel mistake of focusing on a popular side character-when that character only really works in small dosages as a side character.
At least, that's what Gary Busey told me...

As a guy that worked in a toy store for 12 year, I can confirm that Cars is far more successful than Toy Story was.

At least from a merchandising point of view.

My kids loooooved that first "Cars" movie when they were small. It was actually the first movie we took my now 17-year-old to see in a theater (he was about 5 at the time).

Of course we owned it on DVD after that so he (and eventually, his younger brother) watched it over and over again. So needless to say, I am pretty well burned out on that movie, haha.

They didnt care for "Cars 2" -- I think they'd both reached the age where they were too cool for such things by the time that came out. I don't think we've ever seen "Cars 3."

Having a now 7 yo son, I watched the whole franchise... a lot. Generally, my son was pretty much into it, because kids do love cars (although in my impression not as much as I, or we, did as kids - probably more to choose from nowadays).

Cars: I liked the first one. The second one held up, especially for kids with the international touch. The third fell through a bit, probably a bit too complex to keep parents more interested.

Planes: Planes 1 is basically Cars 2 and Planes 2 is basically Cars 1, but with planes. So, overall less surprising and a bit boring. Although it is simpler to play with cars than with planes, I guess.
